What brand of speakers should i get for my car?

Asked by FiRE_MaN (684points) March 20th, 2010

I am getting a new stereo and speakers for my 91 Mazda miata. My car guy told me to go to crutchfield.com and find some i like and he will put them in. So I looked a bit and found these http://www.crutchfield.com/p_777P65C/Sound-Ordnance-P-65C.html?tp=105 has anyone had them or know if they are nice or not? I do not want to spend to much money on these and to much is around 150 or above. The stock speakers are still in there and they are lame. If you have suggestions for stereos that would be great as well. The one that caught my eye was this one. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_070XHD6420/Dual-XHD6420.html?tp=5684&tab=detailed_info#tabs

I wouldn’y buy by brand name. I would try to go someplace where you can listen carefully and buy by your preference in the way they sound.

I have fairly cheap JBLs in my car, 6” and 6×9“s, and they are quite good. Depending on how much you want to spend, Kenwood, Clarion, Pioneer and Alpine are all good. Rockford Fosgate come standard on many premium cars, so they would be a good buy too. The best brands are not well known though, so make sure you hear the speakers before you buy them. One important thing to test is how quickly the rim gets out of shape when the cone is depressed – that is a major cause of distortion, so a stiff rim is important.

Just from glancing at the site, I wouldn’t go that route. Also, make sure you aren’t paying for install. There are places where if you buy the system, they will install it for free (unless we’re talking custom here) But something like that is a REALLY easy install and should be free.

Glancing at the link @Just_Justine provided, I’d go with any of those over the ones you posted.

I am hearing that Sony has the best stuff on the market. I like this. My friend has it and he likes it. Or you could get this, speakers and a head unit for 150 bucks. I’d also suggest Alpine and Kicker
