Why do I talk on the phone well but when I'm face to face I am not quite so funny or interesting?

Asked by jctennis123 (427points) March 21st, 2010

I talk on the phone a lot so maybe this is why. I am also a really good texter. But when I am face to face sometimes I struggle with finding things to say. What is the solution?

You feel freed up by the removal from face-to-face situations.

The answer is to practice, practice, practice on the face-to-face encounters.

How is your self confidence? I’m not saying it’s low but it could be a reason.

Sometimes it has to do with how close is the person to you physically. Its possible you feel intimidated when someone is in your space, or you may feel pressured more to be amusing. I do great in groups and can make people laugh for hours. The moment someone introduces me and tells people how funny I am, I freeze up. Not one funny thought will go through my head. You can count on crickets jumping in my head because it is now the perfect sound proof room. Its called stage fright.

Socialize or talk to someone face to face. This will help you to practice and get used to direct socialization.

@prettylilly me too. I like to talk face to face with people because that gives me a sense of better comprehension and relation to them. On the phone(text/call), you can’t really do that. It’s very easy to fake feelings and expressions and I don’t like that.

@jctennis123 you should practice in front of a mirror or with your closefriend.

Because when you’re face-to-face you’re wearing clothes.
Everyone is funnier naked.

NO PRESSURE from being in person…always easier behind the scenes…gets easier as you practice…but than again who says you’re not as funny in person…is this just a self critic that has no validity?
think about it.
