Have you ever heard of drinking a bit of olive oil?

Asked by jazmina88 (11652points) March 31st, 2010

Just wondering if there are health benefits of olive oil, so much, that you could suck down an oz. or so every once in a while. There is fish oil, castor oil…..what oil is the MacDaddy in health??

If you just make olive oil a regular part of your diet by using it on salads, serving it with fresh-baked wonderful bread, etc. you will enjoy it’s health benefits. I can’t imagine why you’d want to knock one back.

I saw someone do it on the food chanel once.

Yes….it’s best in a dirty martini….grey goose

People take fish oil, would it be good to cook with? I want maximum health benefits.

Then two dirty martinis before dinner. Very very dirty. That means lots of olive oil (well, really olive juice) and less vodka. After two, you might want a third.

Yes, it is very beneficial for a number of reasons: It helps hydrate hair and skin and generally all parts of the body. It really helps bowel movement to a great extent. It is definitely a good idea to do that every so often.

@ZEPHYRA It is definitely a good idea to do that every so often.

???

Have a “great extent” bowel movement?

ZEPHYRA's avatar

Nope, I mean that if bowel movement is difficult and constipation is regular, a bit of olive oil once in a while helps to a great extent! Not well-expressed, I guess!

@ZEPHYRA I wasn’t really serious… (I am seldom really serious.)

Oh my dear Dark Scribe, kind Sir, tis good never to be serious!

Drinking it in quantity would probably have a laxative effect. The fish oil has proven heart benefits (at least my doctor says so), but has such a strong flavor that you would only want to take it in capsule form. Drinking the olive oil probably wouldn’t harm you, but don’t stray far from the latrine.

A teaspoon or two per day is pretty good for you. You get the omega fatty acids and all that.

Since this question seems to have been answered, I will add this extra tip: Using extra virgin olive oil on a cotton ball to remove eye makeup is a cheap, healthy and effective alternative to buying makeup remover!

I have a friend on FB that said flaxseed oil is the most beneficial health oil. can’t cook with it…but can mix it with olive oil for dressings. a teaspoon a day would work.

So Cheers…...eat, drink and be merry

I still say olive juice and vodka taste so much better..:)
