I am getting a ps3 slim and a lcd full hd tv for xmas this year and want to know do I really need a home theatre system to have full hd surround sound and full hd video? I have already got a ps3 HDMI cable and when I connect that to the tv what will that do?

First, you have to set the PS3 to display in HD from the settings (if I remember correctly, it actually asks that right away) and you will be experiencing the beauty of HD. Then, all you need for surround sound is, well, speakers surrounding you. That part is essential. Again, go to the PS3 settings, go to audio options and then set it up for surround sound.
