Need help finding short story!

Asked by rpm_pseud0name (8208points) April 5th, 2010

I remember back in High School, in one of my English/literature classes, we were given a book of short stories. There was one story that really stood out & I would love to read it again. What I remember about it is this—

Story about a woman who I think was a real estate agent, or maybe an interior designer. Either way, she would show houses to people & would tell them how she would decorate the place. The thing was, she had extremely expensive taste. No one could afford her style choices. It led you to believe her home was a beautifully decorated mansion. But in the end of the story (at least how I remember it) we find out the woman was in fact a relatively poor woman who could not afford any of her own ideas & her house was a small rundown place.

This is what I am remembering, it has been many years since I read that back in high school, so my memories may be skewed slightly. If anyone knows any information about the title, author, where it can be found, it would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Coming up empty here. Sorry. Arturo Fuente Short Story was my first instinct and are very tasty, but that is a smart ass answer. Sorry bout that.

XD I Googled a bunch of keywords you mentioned and Quantum of Solace came up. Sorry, even Google can’t help you now.

I tried the same thing and got numerous hits, but none even came close to what I think you’re looking for.

Your best bet might be to try to identify the anthology. If high school wasn’t too long ago, your former teacher might still be around.

@Jeruba That was my plan B. Which looks like the last & most effective option.
