Does anyone know the percentage of websites on the web that rely on Flash?

Asked by rawrgrr (1568points) April 9th, 2010

I was wondering if anyone had any evidence to how much websites rely on Flash on the web. I need this information for a friend of mine. Thanks for the help.

I know, but I won’t tell.

Far too many for Apple to say that Flash is on the way out.

That sounds good, but a long time ago people would have made a similar statement about floppys. And Apple took that gross feature out long ago.

It’s happened a few times. And with html5, which seems like a good substitute being pushed hard, my guess is that Apple has a chance that they’re right.

And wasn’t it Apple and the iPod responsible (or partially) for the success of flash memory? It seems like when they go for something this much, “it happens.” And it seems like Jobso has a death wish for flash.

@mrrich724 Couldn’t agree more. I used to use that same floppy disk example too!

Hard to say right now since it’s a moving target. However, the number is declining a bit now that people are finally adopting HTML 5.

And Flash was on the decline before the iPad, though it’s demise will be hastened by generous “donations” from Saint Steven of Cupertino.
