NSFW What exactly is the benefit of pornography?

Asked by RealEyesRealizeRealLies (30951points) April 12th, 2010

It’s one of the biggest industries in history. If you give it your attention, can you explain to me what the return is for your investment of time and/or money?

Got me. I’m as baffled as you are.

I couldn’t tell you about pornographic movies, I’ve never been interested.
I do read what would be considered pornographic material, though.
And that’s just because I like to read anyways, so it’s like killing two birds with one stone.

Like killing two birds with one stone?

Would you like to clarify that, do you have two ‘peckers’? lololololol

Hah, I should have chosen my words more wisely.
I just meant it satisfies my joy of reading and satisfies the libido temporarily.

Most men are stimulated sexually, primarily from their visual perceptions. They are turned on by what they see. So, if their s/o isn’t around or if they’re single and need to release the baby batter, porn can help them immensely with that.
For women, it’s usually more of an emotional thing which is why most prefer another medium such as harlequin romance novels. However, I know a few women who like porn as much as their partners.
For some, it’s just really fun to watch.

It’s also the same reason why people watch cooking shows. To get ideas.

Porn has changed immensely in the last 30 years.

When I was a teenager the actors were all primarily ‘real’ people, not centerfold material, cosmetically enhanced characatures of themselves.

Every woman could feel just as sexy as they they were not competing with such hardcore fantasy females.

I do think a lot of women feel ‘less than’ with the advent of the modern images of perfect fantasy female flesh.

And, rightfully so, in the sense, that many men do become addicted to these hyper glam images.

No woman wants to feel they are competing for a partners interest or sexual affection against impossibly distorted standards.

Nor should she.
