How do I store vinyl records in a storage facility?

Asked by shpadoinkle_sue (7188points) April 13th, 2010

I’ve got a 10×15 storage unit in Southern Washington near the border of Oregon. I state this for weather reasons. Anyways, I’ve got some vinyl records that I was hoping to maybe put into the storage unit. The record player is in there already. I was just curious what I could do or if I just should leave them where they are.

Heat will kill your 45s and 78s. a storage unit is not recommended unless they have a climate control unit installed.

I’m with @john65pennington. Unless it’s climate controlled, you’re murdering your vinyl. And even if it’s not, you need to be wary of rats and insects, who just love the taste of album cover glue.

Store them in your closet. I feel for you, having over 300 laserdiscs.

Thanks! That’s what I wanted to know. It’s not climate controlled. I just wanted to make sure I didn’t do anything stupid. :)

If at all possible, ask a friend or family member to store them somewhere in their home for you, it will definitely be worth it.

I am counting the days until I have enough room where can put the whole sound system together and blast the Stones all day long. :) Happy thought!
