What is the deal with hotels/motels cutting down their Cable/Satt Tv channel line up ?

Asked by Pretty_Lilly (4660points) April 15th, 2010

I recall years ago even the cheapest roach motel had all 60~70 standard cable channels and either HBO or Showtime.
But now medium level hotels/motels have switched to what they call an Extended cable line up,which sounds good but it’s a crock of **** ,,in reality it means you get 4~5 local channels and a just a few cable channels (5~6) plus 1 premium channel ?! What’s up with that? Would it cost them that much to still offer the standard cable line up ? At least they should offer an upgrade for an additional fee !

They probably don’t want people seeing any kind of nudity, so they get rid of any possible channels.

I noticed this when I was in Toronto.

I figured it was because Canadians go outside instead of watching TV, since I’ve never been in a hotel in the US which didn’t have 80 channels of cable.

Just joining in with today’s trend of paying more and getting less, I guess.

I vote for what @Dibley said. Besides, you shouldn’t be wasting your time watching TV anyway. You are in a new place. Go out and investigate the world.

Travel is down and they are cutting back on everything they can to keep making money.
