Why does Scientology have a military, do they plan to use it for anything?

Asked by RandomMrdan (7436points) April 17th, 2010

I was reading through someone’s question earlier, and I saw scientology, which made me think of the time I saw a scientologist in uniform when I was out having lunch.

Do they even use this military? Is there a purpose to it? Do they have access to weapons, military vessels and things of that nature? It’s kind of a disturbing thought that this “religion” has a military, and they call it Seaorg.

Anyone know what’s up with this?

They use it to intimidate their high-ranking membership from going public with stories of physical and financial abuse.

Scientology’s stated goal is world domination. Though their subversive tactics like brainwashing and infiltration of businesses and governments are their primary methods, having a military surely is a viable backup, especially for supressing dissent when they have world dominance.

@ragingloli Or suppressing dissent before then. The St. Petersburg Times has ahd a series of expose articles about the Scientologists whose world headquarters is in Clearwater, Fl. Apparently, they use torture and isolation to intimidate members and inhibit defection. They are a seriously scary organization. I didn’t know they had a military arm but am not surprised to read that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_Org—> “The Sea Org acts as goodwill representatives and administrators of Scientology with the stated purpose to “get ethics in on the planet” (Scientology Ethics rather than ethics in the conventional sense.)[2] Another primary function is “To safeguard the advanced levels of Scientology”. According to the church, the Sea Org is a fraternal religious order rather than an incorporated entity.”

They seem to be as much a branch of the “military” as the Salvation “army”.

Every religion has/has had an army and currently Christianity’s is the USA’s military forces…

So I guess its only fair Scientology gets a few brutes, but there only a threat to the weak minded so I wouldn’t worry, hence only celebrities are affected.

Yes there is a good reason for their “military”. The Scientologists militants and the fundamentalist christian militants are going to join forces and start with taking over america, than the world and everyone that refuses to take their oath to join their allegiance will be executed. LMAO!
