Eh i have many personal qualities that make me look like a nerd at times but i guess the one thing that really points it out is my room. I have shelfs of action figures of comic book super heroes or video game characters all over my room.

i’m a mathematician. i think that gets me an automatic pass into the nerd kingdom.

I think endoscopic imaging equipment is cool.

I have over 200 japanime DVDs, and yes, I know that it would be easier to download but I love my DVDs. Also everything in my room is alphabetised, I try to eat food in alphabetical order too, I suppose that its more OCD that nerdiness

I study stratospheric ozone depletion and get to tinker with atmospheric instruments.

oneye36's avatar

can I ask you about the ozone les

Les's avatar

Sure. It is 6:23 AM where I am, so bear with me if I am slow. ;-)

oneye36's avatar

I heard the ozone is growing its geting to thick

Les's avatar

Well, it depends on where you are talking. Tropospheric levels (here on the surface) could be increasing, but stratospheric levels are what I am concerned with. Ozone is a pollutant near the surface (it is produced from many sources, factories, burning, etc) and too much is hazardous to people’s health. You may have heard of “ozone action days” in major cites (Houston, especially). These are days where, due to lack of vertical mixing (so air near the ground stays near the ground, and doesn’t mix with other layers) ozone concentrations are high. But stratospheric ozone is good. As far as I know, there is not “too much” of it in the stratosphere. We are still monitoring that, and will be for quites some time, but there is no evidence to say that the hole is closing, or that there is plenty of ozone in the stratosphere. If you have further questions, oneye, message me privately. I don’t want to clutter up the thread.

I’m actually a geek, not a nerd. But really we all fall under the same umbrella. Also, I can totally obsess over minute details which I think is a great nerd/geek characteristic.

I love solving any mathmatical problem! Oh an I collect comic books not the usual ones but weird ones like rockey horror, and ewoks, etc. That’s why I’m a nerd. Also I am a special fx make up artist! I love blood and gore!

I spend all my time disocovering new social networking sites and then blog about them. I also am a HUGE apple head, the first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is check the rumor sites, from my iPhone, while I am still in bed. That’s sad

Also I used to be an internet guru on the Indiana Jones costume, having even replicated my own Indiana Jones shirt for sale about 7 years ago.

omfgTALIjustIMDu's avatar

@Riser, they filmed the new Indiana Jones movie just by my house. I saw Harrison Ford and Stephen Spielberg.

When I come across a word I don’t know while I’m reading, I have a habit of writing it down on the last page of the book or on a bookmark, along with the page number. Then I look up all the words and write down the definitions, and later go back to the original page number so I can see the context in which the word appeared in that book. Extreme nerdiness, I know. But my vocabulary has benefitted. Lucubration, anyone?

occ's avatar

I am also only slightly embarassed to confess that when I was in elementary school I used to bring a stroller with me to the library so i could wheel the books home. I lived in NYC and we didn’t own a car.

eyeofnyc's avatar

not nerdly, occ, GENIUS! I had to walk a long way to school too. Wish I’d thought of that.

Did you know that some people have a compulsiveness to steal things? They’re called kleptomaniacs. (sp?)

Or:

I heard once that if you get stabbed, and the weapon (or thing thats going inside you) is close to a major artery, the artery jumps slightly to avoid being punctured!
