“That’s what she said.” I wait for the best moments to say that one which, I would say, is about three times a week. The circumstance is obvious.

Early minstrels were much larger people.
In fact, they had hands the size of small dogs.

Edit: I would use one of those if people question my intelligence.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer in all sorts of situations, but usually just around people who would get what I’m saying.

I throw out Seinfeld quotes all the time; “Not that there’s anything wrong with that.” Just normal conversation where that seems to fit. ”Serenity now!!”- obviously when I’m feeling stressed. “I was in the pool! There was shrinkage!” – Just to break an uncomfortable silence, or in the store.

Oh, gods, all the time. I don’t think I’d be a respectable geek if I didn’t.

I use the word “Frak”, from BSG and Caprica, constantly. “He’s dead, Jim” is another common one, usually used when swatting flies or realizing I need to change the batteries in my camera. “I’m a doctor, not a _______” whenever someone asks me to do something I’m not qualified to do. Actually, I quote Trek a lot.
“I’m sorry, Dave, I can’t do that”, from Space Odyssey
“I find your lack of faith disturbing”, from Star Wars
“Aren’t you a little short to be a Storm Trooper?” – I use that more often than you’d think.
“Do, or do not, there is no ‘try’.” Gotta love Yoda.
“Bright light! Bright light!” – Gremlins
“Have fun storming the castle!” – The princess bride
“These are not the _______ you are looking for”
“Make it so”, “engage”, “Tea, Earl Grey, Hot”, etc.

Oh! One of my favourites is from The Simpsons – “Where did I find it? More like where didn’t I find it, it was practically everywhere!”

Holy crap. I know nothing of EU politics, but that was one hell of a rant, and whatever team that dude’s on, I’m backing them. ^_^

I quoted The West Wing on an exam:

“Decisions are made by those who show up.”

I did okay.

Okay… maybe I’m not backing him completely… but it was a great rant.

Dr_Dredd's avatar

I am always quoting Monty Python. “It’s only a flesh wound!” Also, since I’m buying new living room furniture, “Fetch… THE COMFY CHAIR!!!” :-)

Trillian's avatar

@Dr_Dredd As long as you leave room in one corner tor the machine that goes; BING!!

Seek's avatar

No lie, when I was in the hospital having my kid, there was a machine that went “BING!”

The laughs from that was the most positive aspect of the entire fiasco.

I’ll often quote something from The Simpsons, but there’s never anything specific…it can range from the early 90’s episodes all the way to now, depending on what comes to mind in what situation.

The point here is, The Simpsons are extremely quotable, whether it’s to be funny or philosophical haha.

I’m a lot more apt to quote stuff outta Trainspotting most of the time, though. >_>

Sarcasm's avatar

I regularly quote Futurama, Doctor Who and Always sunny.
But I don’t have any specific quotes that I use. I quote so many different lines from so many different episodes.

I do quote Oooh, that’s a BINGO! from Inglourious Basterds on a regular basis though.

phillis's avatar

Some of these quotes I write, not speak. Sometimes the quotes are modified to fit specific instances.

“Ha-ha!” Nelson, The Simpsons
“Mmmm….doughnuts.” – Homer Simpson

From BtVS Passion , Earshot , and The Gift quotes are specified. They are the ones I quote the most IRL and when writing):
(referencing the world) Welcome to the Hellmouth – (Season one, Episode One)
“This is my resolve face. You’ve seen my resolve face – you know what it means!” Willow
“Raise your hand if eww” – Buffy

Between hubby and me:
“I’m tired of being everybody’s buttmonkey”- Xander
“Check. No more buttmonkey.” – Buffy

(Quoted often)“The hardest thing in this world is to live in it”- Buffy (The Gift)

“Why am I the guy who gets the funny syphilis?” – Xander
“You know what? I was wrong. You are an idiot. – Buffy (Earshot)
[VO] “It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion, maybe we’d know some kind of peace. But we would be hollow.” – Angelus
[VO]“Without passion, we’d be truly dead.” – Angelus (Passion)
[VO] “Passion. It lies in all of us. Sleeping… ...waiting… And though unwanted… ...unbidden… it will stir…open its jaws, and howls. It speaks to us… guides us… Passion rules us all. And we obey. What other choice do we have?” – Angelus (Passion)
[VO] “Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love… the clarity of hatred… and the ecstasy of grief.” – Angelus (Passion)
“To hurt this girl, you gotta love ‘er.” – Angelus (Passion)
“Nope. You’re wrong, kid. You got one thing left to lose.” – Whistler

My daughter and I love laughing at these two over and over:
“The mask hates the room, Mom. It wants the room to suffer.” – Buffy
“It’s dead, Dru. You didn’t feed it, and now it’s all dead” – Spike

To my daughter’s teacher:
“I think what my daughter’s trying to say is, “Nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah.” – Joyce

“Uh-oh…...you have but face…” – Buffy
”...you arrogant, rank amateur!” – Giles
“You’re really campaigning for bitch of the year, aren’t you?” – Cordelia
“Spank your inner moppet, do whatever you have to do. But get over it.” – Cordelia
“You had to tie me up to beat me.There’s a word for people like you, Faith. Loser.” – Buffy
“Can I trade in the children for more cash?” – Anya
“What’s the matter – did I spoil your self-righteous riff?” – Ford
”.....people walk around like Happy Meals on legs.” – Spike

“You’re not friends. You’ll never be friends. You’ll be in love till it kills you both. You’ll fight, you’ll shag and you’ll hate each other till it makes you quiver, but you’ll never be friends. Love isn’t brains children, it’s blood. Blood screaming inside you to work its will.” – Spike
“I may be love’s bitch, but at least I’m man enough to admit it.” -Spike
“You have a choice. It’s not a good choice, but it’s a CHOICE. – Buffy

“Bottom line is, even if you see ‘em coming, you’re not ready for the big moments. No one asks for their life to change, not really. But it does.” – Whistler
“So what are we, helpless? Puppets? No. The big moments are gonna come. You can’t help that. It’s what you do afterwards that counts. That’s when you find out who you are.” – Whistler
“As long as you don’t go humpin’ my leg, we’re five by five.” – Faith
“Son of a bitch! It’s my lucky day.” – Faith
“You drive like a spaz!” – Snyder

“My life happens to, on occasion, suck beyond the telling of it….” – Buffy (Earshot)
”.....sometimes more than I can handle. And it’s not just mine. Every single person down there is ignoring your pain because they’re too busy with their own. . It looks quiet down there. It’s not. It’s deafening.” – Buffy (Earshot)

“I see more than anybody realizes because nobody’s watching me.” – Dawn
”....sooner or later Glory will re-emerge, and make Buffy pay for that mercy. And the world with her. Buffy even knows that…and still she couldn’t take a human life. She’s a hero, you see. She’s not like us.” – Giles (The Gift)
“In case you haven’t noticed, the Sunnydale police are deeply stupid.” – Snyder

“Every day you wake up, it’s the same bloody question that haunts you: is today the day I die? And part of you wants it…because you’re just a little bit in love with it.” – Spike

I don’t quote any shows far as I know.

But the phrases “My bad”, and “Let’s do this”, which I now occasionally hear, must have come from TV or movies, because those phrases did not exist 20 years ago.

My hubby and I have been talking about this for the last couple of days, and really having fun coming up with new ones that we hear all the time.

Like:

“It’s alive!” – Frankenstein
“Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh my!” – Wizard of Oz
“Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!”
”...and your little dog, too!”
”...if I only had a brain”
(jaws theme music)
“I love the smell of Napalm in the morning” – Apocalypse Now
“GOOD MORNING, VIETNAM!” – movie same name
“Party time… excellent!” – Wayne’s World
“Get your stinking paws off of me, you damned dirty ape!” Planet of the Apes
“I kick ass for the Lord” – Dead Alive (or BrainDead, depending on when you saw it)
“Be afraid, be very afraid” – The Fly
“I see dead people…” The Sixth Sense
“We all go a little mad sometimes” – Psycho
“It’s only a movie…” – well, it’s from the promotional posters, but Last House on the Left

Austinlad's avatar

Not TV, but do I quote movies a lot, and to be even more precise, Woody Allen. You’d be amazed how often this line works for me:

“What I wouldn’t give for a large sock filled with horse manure.”

I live with my husband and 6 other Dudes… And almost everything that comes out of ALL of their mouths is a qoute from something, mostly Movies, LOTS of MOnty Python and The Big Labowski…okay so I qoute both of those all the time too! ~ NEE! ” I’m Not a witch, I’m Not!” ” Burn Her!”

“Phone’s ringing Dude” cant really hear a phone ring without that one coming out….

Star Wars Qoutes are another big one in the House, oh and of course ” That’s what she said” And oddly enough I still even hear ” Alrighty then”.... will that never get old? Geez

Oh and Kevin Smith Movies are always fun to qoute as well… Snoochy Bootchies!

Dr_Dredd's avatar

@Fairylover78 I’m guilty of “Allllrighty, then” myself.

Me and my friends have often used the Seinfeld quote “Is he sponge-worthy?” but using other words, something that is really good or rare. Example: “Is he U2 tickets worthy?”

Another one is shouting “Newman!” also from Seinfeld.

And Charlie Harper’s “Ooooooooooh” from Two and a Half Men. When he realizes what has just “really” happened.

And “Squabb?” asked indignently by Jake on Two and a Half Men after hearing that is the only thing to eat.

And “Penny, Penny, Penny” from The BIg Bang Theory.

“That parrot is pushing up the daisies” from Monty Python’s Flying Circus.

“What if he came at you with a pointed stick?” from MPFC.

“Nudge, nudge, know what I mean? Say no more.” from MPFC

“But Father, I don’t want any land. I want to siiiiiiiiiingggg!” from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

“Nie!!!” from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

“Just Jack” from Will and Grace.

“Oh Honey, no!” from Karen on Will and Grace (done in her voice)

“Marcia, Marcia, Marcia” from The Brady Bunch.

“Festivus for the rest of us” from Seinfeld.

“It’s in my raccoon wounds!” – from family guy, you’d be surprised how often I use it.
