He should’ve resigned when he was pushing for driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants. Personally, I couldn’t care less that he used prostitutes, but he exposed himself as the epitome of a hypocrite, because he prosecuted prostitution rings in the past.

What police officers who speed? Or Presidents who violate their oath to protect and preserve the Constitution? This is nothing but republican Penis-Politics.

Not funny; sad. And he just resigned..the whole thing is a mess. Part of the issues were his self-righteous and holier-than-thou attitudes and hypocritcal demeanor. Whether prostitution should be legal is another issue; we could talk about that on another thread.

Luckily, the Lt. Governor is a well-respected and well-liked man..legally blind and black…but his biggest problems will be managing the experienced and clever Rep. leaders in the House and Senate…Joe Bruno and Sheldon Silver – iron-fists-in-velvet gloves guys who have been around forever and are deft, tactful and extremely adroit.

I feel for Mrs. Wall Spitzer and her three daughers, 17, 15, and 13. A scarring experience for them all.

How can you find this amusing, beenzy?

Seconded, gailcalled; this is just sad.

Spitzer had the potential to do a lot of good beyond what he’s already done. What baffles me is, this is a man who’s made a career out of breaking up prostitution rings and similar conspiracies: how did he really expect he’d be able to get away with hiring prostitutes?

beenzy7's avatar

I was amused because he thought he could get away with hiring a prostitute he is now a discrace to NEW YORK CITY he had so much and he risked it all for Sex.

Mama always said, “The righteous are seldom right.”
I think I was in love with the Idea of Elliot Spitzer. He looked to be a true progressive reformist, someone who could be a leading force in our party. I was disapionted that his tenure as governor was hit with allegations of impropriety from the start. It did not bode well.

@beenzy: what about the rest of new york STATE?

gailcalled's avatar

Governor is to NYS as mayor is to NYC.

Yes. He did the right thing by stepping down. His personal life is indeed none of our business and if he’d simply had an affair (a’la Mayor Gavin Newsom of San Francisco or Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick of Detroit) it would be a personal matter for his family. However, Spitzer has apparently committed numerous felonies—so regardless of one’s feelings about the morality/legality of prostitution, it is nevertheless a crime, and the chief executive of a state (or ANY government) cannot live by a different standard of law than those he governs. Though it breaks my heart, I think he should be prosecuted, because any of the rest of us would be. Everyday, NYPD hauls in dozens of hookers and johns from the streets. Why should Gov. Spitzer be exempt?
