What would be a movie where an alternative ending would have been better for you or arguably even for the movie itself?

When a movie ends sometimes they can leave you cold & wishing for a better outcome.Which examples if any, have you of this & how would you have changed them?

Lord of the Rings

It should have ended with the first Movie.

I want to know what happens next.

I can’t remember the name of it. The Will Smith Zombie movie. I HATED the ending. In fact I’ve kinda scrubbed it out of my brain. I MUCH preferred the alternative endings.

Avatar. The ending was so obvious and so “Hollywood”. Sully should have died.

There were rumours of a sequel to Seven this time involving cannibalism,I believe it had a working title of Seven Ate Nine although I could be wrong.

@RedPowerLady I am Legend. I thought he should have lived but there you go.

Fight Club—the book ending was much better.

I wish that there was an alternate beginning to The Usual Suspects. And by beginning, I mean the first (give or take) 90 minutes of the movie.

The Titanic, the ship should have narrowly missed the iceberg… only to be blasted away by space aliens from the planet Gorxon.

buckyboy28's avatar

What about an alternate ending to “Inglourious Basterds” where Hitler doesn’t… oh wait. Nevermind.

ucme's avatar

@erichw1504 Yeah but Kate Winslet survives & is taken hostage, naked throughout & given the old anal probe routine. Please god make Celine Dion explode into a million pieces at the outset,i’m begging the little alien buggers.

@buckyboy28 The shit Quentin pulls eh!

RedPowerLady's avatar

@ucme Thank you! That was bothering me. I suppose I could have googled it but well I’ve got my hands full fluthering and taking care of my LO. Haha. I think he should have lived as well.

@RedPowerLady Google shmoogle.Far more fun & productive on here.

A Clockwork Orange
Kubrick should’ve filmed the 21st chapter. But then again, he didn’t read the book with the full 21 chapters. Still a real horrorshow, though

The horrible Star Wars prequels. It should have ended with Obi wan and Gin being gassed to death in that conference room at the beginning of the first movie.

Halloween IV. One of my fave Halloween movies, but the ending is so lame and stupid, and at the very least, you’d think they could follow from that in some significant way in Halloween V instead of just reheating the pot and ignoring the own factor of IV’s ending.

But yeah slasher films, who cares amirite.

@Symbeline I have this unwritten rule with sequels once they pass number two I don’t want to know.Like give it up already.

thriftymaid's avatar

Hollywood likes to change the ending rather than have the same ending as the book. When I have read the book prior to seeing the movie, I find this to be a disappointment.

Berserker's avatar

@ucme Yeah, but Halloween one and two are pretty much one big movie, number three is out of series, so number four is like number two. O_o
I mean if five was gonna be the same as everything else, they just shouldn’t have added that stupid ending to four; or just made five in consequence to the ending in four…God knows they tried plot twisting and adding story elements in number six, which just made no sense but yeah…I rattle. XD

ucme's avatar

@Symbeline Gotcha. Although three was disturbingly bad, kind of like an embarassing relative left locked away somewhere never to see the light of day again.

Berserker's avatar

@ucme Yeah, it was horrendous. About the only good thing I can say about it is the soundtrack, minus that fucking Silver Shamrock song.

ucme's avatar

@Symbeline You sadistic twisted little fucker.I now will have that twat of a tune in my head for at least the next hour or so.I mean thank you ever so, you know not of what you do :(

Berserker's avatar

Two more days till Halloween, Halloween, Halloween, twooo more days till…and so forth. ’‘Big smile!’’

ucme's avatar

Make it stop doo doo dooo dooo dooo doo dooo doooooooooo arrrrrrrggghhhh!!!!!

The movie The Mist should have had an ending that was comparable to the ending in the story originally written by Stephen King that the film was adapted from. The ending of this movie was terrible and ruined the entire viewing experience for me.

Berserker's avatar

@Bluefreedom Agreed. I hate how that movie was recognized for its shock ending alone, rather than the original work which inspired it. Sad.

I wish the second Alien movie had ended with Newt, Hicks, Ripley and the droid all living. Of course, we don’t find out until the third one….could we not all have done without that one and just skipped straight to the fourth?

If at the end of Titanic, before Leonardo DiCaprio dies, there would be a little lifeboat going by with people shouting “hot soup!”, just out of range of his weakened yells.

filmfann's avatar

RoboCop 3. They should have made Lewis (who died mid way in the movie) into a RoboCop.

@RedPowerLady I Am Legend on DVD has an alternate ending that worked much better.

I Love You Man has the Paul Rudd character slap another RE-agent. He should have screemed at him, like he learned how to do under the Boardwalk.

Blade Runner’s original ending was the best, but the recut’s have all changed the ending, and the meaning of the entire film. Should have left it alone.

Return of the Jedi: Dump the goddamn teddy bears!

RedPowerLady's avatar

@filmfann I saw that. I liked it much better as well!
