Is jerky good for you?

Asked by TylerM47 (10points) May 1st, 2010 from iPhone

It’s high protein, low fat, and low in calories, but it seems to taste to good to be true

You need to check the ingredients to make sure it is not made with a lot of sugar and salt.

Could anything named “jerky” be good for you?

Depends on who made it and when; any package with a shelf life of more than five years should be shunned. Make your own to be safe.

“There are many products in the marketplace which are sold as jerky which consist of highly processed, chopped and formed meat, rather than traditional sliced, whole-muscle meat. These artificial products, with their higher fat and water content, often include chemical preservatives to prevent spoilage.” Source (food)

A bit of beef jerky never did me any harm.Particular good when the wife partakes.

As a snack now and then it won’t harm you, but I wouldn’t say it’s good for you. It is usually very high in salt content.
