Are Fire Safe Cigarettes really safe?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) May 2nd, 2010

The first time this occured, i paid it no attention. the second time this occured, i almost lost control of my vehicle on the interstate. first, i detest fire safe cigarettes. i realize the supposedly safety built into them, except for one flaw. here is what happened. while driving at night on the interstate at 70 mph, my FSC cigarette burned itself out. i had just lit it. i grabbed my Bic lighter and attempted to relight it. when the flame from the flame from my Bic hit the end of my cigarette, a flame shot up about 3 to 4 inches. it temporarily blinded me and my nose will never be the same. this was dangerous. yeah, i know, you say i should stop smoking and not smoke while driving, right? since neither one of those are going to happen, what chemicals have the manufacturers now included in these cigarettes, that makes them a safety hazard to re-light and has anyone else had this same experience?
