Describe a Nutritious, Filling Breakfast?

Asked by Aster (20023points) May 4th, 2010

I have come to think that bacon and eggs, which I loved, are bad for you and fattening. Cereal and bananas is ok but not satisfying. Healthnuts say to have a smoothie only. What do you say is a filling, nutrient filled breakfast?

Raspberry yogurt, a tangerine, a bowl of cereal, and 3 cups of coffee. (The coffee is not so nutritious, but it is very necessary).

unfortunately I think that anything (even nutritious food) that fills you til lunchtime will be quite high calorific-ally..even smoothies… but I have heard that porridge with fruit is the best really for what you’re looking for

My daughter and I usually eat eggs over medium, bacon, french toast, homemade hashbrowns, and french toast on the weekends.
On the weekdays it’s Malt O Meal or Cream of Rice. Sometimes I will make a pot of plain white rice and then make rice cearal out of it.
Each of these breakfasts is accompanied by some sort of fruit (either banana or tangerine) and a glass of milk.

in no way shape or form are we even the slighteset bit overweight

A bowl of grits, two eggs, some fresh fruit (or a small salad), and a little coffee or gyokuro always works pretty well for me.

@jfos – I just had that for breakfast, but with 1% milk. Yummy, nutritious, and filling! High fiber cereals are the key to being satiated until lunch time.

I also like to take a 6 oz. cup of Stonyfield Organic Yogurt (any flavor) and mix in some fresh fruit, some Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal, and some almonds… so Good – and Good for you! I will eat this for lunch or even dinner – especially in the summertime, because the meal is cool and refreshing and fruits are fresh and delicious!

Since I have a long commute, I stop at Dunkin’ Donuts and get their Turkey Sausage Egg-white Flatbread and a large Latte with Skim milk… this will hold me until lunch on most days. But the days when I wake up especially hungry, I will add the hash browns, which aren’t nutritious, but taste SOooooo GOOOoooood!

Breakfast like a king.
Lunch like a peasant.
Supper like a pauper.

Most of your day’s calories should be consumed at breakfast. Not too much fat, but protein, good carbs, and fiber, etc.

Perhaps an egg with a bit of spinach and salmon (I’d personally have to have a bit of cheese as well), seven-grain toast with light soy spread and tomato juice.

I like a cup of oatmeal with a protein smoothie, usually OJ with GNC Banana whey protein powder and a fresh banana or other peice of fruit.

Toast with PBJ and a yogurt is good too.

A Greek yogurt, berries and granola parfait! Good to go all day on one of them! YUM!

An egg-white omelette with spinach, mushrooms and a little bit of cheese. Some strawberries too. Filling, nutritious and yummy.

I can see why bacon might is fattening, but eggs? Having a good breakfast apparently prevents obesity.

Fruit, fruit, its all in the fruit. Fruit is a really good breakfast, and if you have a bunch of it make a smoothie or just have a nice fruit salad. You can also sprinkle hemp seeds on the salad or blend it with the smoothie, it provides you with tons of omega 3s, and other nutrients you need. Best of all it is filling.

I love fresh muesli for breakfast. The combination of oatmeal, fruit, juice, and yogurt is delicious and filling. Everything in it is pretty healthy, so even though it’s sweet, it won’t give you a sugar crash like pastries. It tastes so good with coffee. If there’s no time to make this, just stir some fresh berries and granola into plain yogurt.

My other favorite breakfast is to scramble eggs with vegetables. Saute some fresh vegetables like bell peppers, zucchini, mushroom, and onion first, then if you want add spinach, halved cherry tomatoes, or goat cheese in at the same time as the eggs and stir. You can also saute all the vegetables then just pour the eggs over the top. Cook it on low heat until the top is set, and then slice it like a pie.

I love bacon. Here’s what my dietitian suggested – crumble up a slice of bacon and sprinkle it over three different breakfasts – saves a lot of money, plus allows me to eat my favorite food.
Hash browns cooked in 1 teaspoon olive oil, poached egg with bacon pieces, grapefruit.

Protein is really vital to ramping up brain function in the morning.

I have at least 20 grams of protein to get the full boost of the day.

Thats why I really like the protein powders, quick and easy, done, lets gooooooo! haha

Oh and for protein Cliff builder bars are great, they have a 20g serving of protein. Combine that and a delicious smoothie and BAM energy! The bars are also pretty darn filling on their own but no more than 2 hours, so the smoothie helps top it off.
Doesn’t this just look yummy? The chocolate mint ones are my favorite, but there are plenty of other flavors.
