Do boys stutter more than girls? It seems so. Why?

Asked by gailcalled (54644points) February 10th, 2007
During the years I worked in secondary schools, I never remember hearing a young girl stutter but there were plenty of boys who did.. Curious.

You are correct, but it doesn't seem like anyone knows why.

From the very brief google search I did, at least.

That's very interesting, though.

Boys are more self-conscious when their peers are around. It’s in our genes I guess ;)

One of my step-sons was a mild stutterer (he outgrew it) and stuttered also in the bosom of his user-friendly family. FWIW, he was also left-handed. And did not stammer when he sang in the choir.
