How would an "everything" tab work on Fluther?

Asked by kenmc (11773points) May 6th, 2010

The new design of Fluther is neat and all, but to me it seems to be causing questions to get less answers. Also, the number of clicks to get to a question that interests one has gone up, which is annoying. Another issue is that the new set-up seems like it could cause pockets of the same people answering the same types of questions (cliques).

Would an “everything” tab (one that includes all questions) in addition to the new ones be a feasible idea? What do you think of the idea?

Like a broken clock.

That would sort of defeat the purpose of dividing the site up in the first place.

@Ivan If someone wanted to answer/see serious questions or social Q’s, they could still visit the new tabs. I don’t see how having an everything tab would hurt.

@boots

I am worried that splitting the site up will decrease activity, but the different sections have different moderation guidelines. Having them all mixed in together might be confusing, both for the question-answerers and the moderators.

Things are confusing enough as they are. I just check my sense of humor at the door when I enter now.

@Ivan The guidelines are right abovw the answer box…

That would defeat the purpose. There were already technically sections before this, discussions and questions. The idea is to make it perfectly clear that there is a separation.

@J0E I’m not suggesting we do away with the difference. A place where both types are readily accessible seems like a good idea to me.

IMHO, decreased activity might not be so bad. As with many things, on Fluther it is the quality of responses I care about, not the quantity.

@sferik New users are what keep a site financially sucessful.

@boots Sounds like AB. To hell with the old users, just keep new ones coming in is all that matters.

@boots I’m pretty sure it would be quite inefficient and get nothing done. An everything tab would completely negate the organization Fluther had just gone through.

There already are “cliques” because people navigate towards others they like and enjoy. There’s no way around that. It does seem like a hassle having things broken up this way but I haven’t noticed much of a change in the amount of answers questions receive.

I, for one, am finding all the navigating and redundancy tiring. The new changes complicate things for me; it’s like a baseball game with 37 people on each team.

I seem to already have one.

I don’t mind hunting for questions.

That’s the way it was before along with being able to see the posts by people in your fluther separately. Now I’ve got three tabs to peruse if I’ve got time instead of two. Grrr Kind of reminds of another place that had a beautiful fancy honeycomb skin but chaos inside.

YARNLADY's avatar

I’m confused, does the “everything” tab only appear for some of us?

@boots :: If you are logged in you don’t see any ads except the one for the shirt. People searching for answers on google will see ads. That is where the money comes from. Once you log in you aren’t helping pay the bills unless you add content that people will search for.
