How do I reduce that background hum coming from my computer speaker plug?

So, I have a computer hooked up to an EQ that has two stereo speakers plugged into it. There’s a low hum coming from the speakers that’s not there when I feed any other audio source into the EQ. This happens with just about anything I plug into my computer’s audio port. How can I fix this? What’s even causing it?
