You could tamper with someone’s pipes the day after you go around passing out flyers. But you might get caught/charged with a crime if you do that.

Make flyers listing contact information, and prices. Contact businesses and see if they could use a plumber.

What other strengths do you have that might help you find another line of work? Although, I’d think that plumbing would be consistent, as everyone uses it on a daily basis!

Are your prices fair? Do you perform work carefully and are you trustworthy? I’d sit down with someone who know me and my work and ask them to be absolutely honest. You also might hire an advertising consultant. Good luck.

If you don’t work for a major plumbing company & work out of your house on house calls, maybe you could call around to schools or businesses to see if they need a full time or part time maintenance worker. Maybe study up on some basic electrical work & some other fields to round out your resume.

What you don’t mention is if you are self employed or want to work for a company.
If you want to pick up odd jobs here and there… This is what I would do.
1. Make up business cards or a little flyer and go around to every business in town and introduce yourself. Offer your services at a reasonable price. Also put it on any public billboard allowed.
2. Get some recommendations from previous customers
3. On your flyer offer a free inspection on some plumbing item… Like a water heater
4. Make sure your prices are fair and your quality is the best
5 YOU MUST BE DEPENDABLE AND DO WHAT YOU SAY YOU WILL DO. BE ON TIME
6. Always give a little more extra then what the customer expects.
7 The most important thing is learn to give before you get…Give, give give and you will get

Find an unemployed carpenter and form a partnership to do “bathroom and kitchen remodels”. I would imagine that this is how companies like “BathFitters” get started: if you can offer complete remodel services from floor to ceiling and everything in between, at attractive prices and with one-day or two-day guaranteed service, then you’ll have business coming out of your ears.

The trick is to be able to plan and estimate your work well enough that you can offer fixed prices and short schedules that attract people because they know in advance exactly what the work will cost and how long they’ll be inconvenienced. Of course, you’ll have to be able to accept the risk of:

1. Estimating your prices and living with the quotation you deliver to the customer—you might lose money sometimes.

2. Estimating and living within the schedules that you promise, with penalties incurred if you miss dates.

3. Still not being able to find work sometimes—there will still be dry spells, and being swamped with work sometimes.

If your only experience (and desire) is to work at a comfortable pace at a fixed and steady rate of pay… then good luck to you. Those days are ending, as you can see.

Move to the U.S. Plumbers are in great demand here, and they generally do quite well financially. Also, there’s a strong labor union for plumbers; unlike many Americans, you’d have excellent health insurance and a real pension. Oh…and let’s not forget that people will be charmed by your voice!

Move South towards Yorkshire there’s always a shortage of Plumbers down here.

I think in some EU countries there’s a shortage of plumbers. You could do some research.
