What is the best weight loss supplement to achieve a six pack?

Asked by brinkofit (175points) May 15th, 2010

I want one and want one fast. I only eat turkey sandwiches, salad, yogurt and granola bars. I weight about 165 and I am 6 ft tall. The problem is all my excess fat is on my belly

I don’t bother with supplements. Good abs come from a good balanced diet and the proper abdominal exercises. Farm work gives me all the abdominal exercise I need without specific workouts, but there are plenty of guides that will specify what kinds are good.

Unfortunately there’s no real quick fix and as (i assume) you are a male you will naturally put weight on first in your gut. My advice would be to work on your leg muscles as they are easier to get bigger and are real fat burners due to increased total energy expenditure and with cardio can help reduce body fat quickly.

Another tip eat six small meals a day not three large ones to keep your body from thinking it is starving between meals and so making fatty deposits it need not be.

Yea I’m a male :)

I do about 2 miles a day, 6 days a week and 300 crunches. I think I need to increase my ab workouts then..

are weight loss supplements a good idea?

@brinkofit You could consider increasing the distance on your runs; up to twice what you’re currently doing. As @dynamic3 said, the big leg muscles are great fat burners.

4 miles a day? OK then

No hydroxicut? :(

Don’t increase your ab workouts its unnecessary! It’s a common misconception that the more you do the more you build your muscle. You should only exercise each muscle group in the body one day a week (weights\ cruncheswise) otherwise you will over work the muscle group and actually start to break down muscle tissue.

Increase your run distance as @stranger_in_a_strange_land suggested and make sure you do your crunches before any cardio not after to make sure that it is getting sufficient blood glucose and proteins for muscle repair that will be significantly depleted after a cardio sess.

I don’t have any experience with supplements but as a biologist I can tell you they are generally a con. If anything take a whey protein shake within 45mins of working out and make sure you graze on healthy protein rich foods (porridge, almonds, nuts, berries etc) throughout the day.

How is your build? Are you long and narrow in the torso, torso longer than legs? If so then you’re at a disadvantage to bulked and cut abs. If you’re shorter in the torso then legs then any belly will look bigger and rounder. You need time to let your exercise and diet pay off.

My legs are longer than my torso. My belly is flat, just no definition

@brinkofit Too many abdominal exercises may actually work against your purpose, as @dynamic3 said. Keeping up the proteins also helps build muscle mass.

It takes effort, but if you do the program, you will get a six pack.

I;ve found that a strong, healthy body that works efficiently is more desirable than any particular “look”.
