Do any straight people ever have homosexual thoughts?

Asked by Roughdraft76 (219points) March 14th, 2008 from iPhone

I have many friends, gay and straight. A couple of my straight friends sometimes hint around being attracted or admire people of the same sex. I was just wondering if many straight people have these thoughts and just keep from being gay by not acting or crossing any lines on those feelings.

according to Kinsey’s research the majority of heterosexual men fluctuate from 1 to 3 on any given day.

Aren’t we all just a little gay?

I was just going to say, isn’t that the point of the Kinsey Scale?

There’s a big difference between having an admiration for someone and wanting to get physical! I think women in particular are able to openly comment on other attractive women, but this doesn’t mean there’s anything sexual there.

“Straight” and “gay” aren’t absolutes, they’re endpoints on a continuum.

With all due respect and appreciating the responses, the Kinsey scale was published in 1948 and researched again in 1953, I believe. I just kind of wanted a more updated response. :)

Woo hoo for continuum, god bless the gray.

Yes it’s perfectly normal. I’d be lying if I said I never had a straight thought before. Sure it was fleeting, but it was there.

On the other hand, I wonder if gay people have straight thoughts???

A side-question I’ve been thinking about for a while… I think we’d all agree it’s more socially “accepted” for straight women to experiment with lesbianism.

What does it mean that something like (25% 40% 60%?) of women avatars in online communities (especially role-playing ones) are actually men. Is that related? Is that just a manifestation of the relaxed social standards and anonymity?

A bit of a simplistic answer I know, but I think that’s more to do with creating an ideal woman – assuming the character is customisable. As a woman, I usually play as a male character.

@Sparkie510: I can’t speak for all, but I can say with complete certainty that some do.

@andrew: Some men create what they think of as the ideal woman—and when “she” turns out to be an inflatable-chested porn bimbo, it’s really squick-inducing. Especially when it’s in a face-to-face roleplaying game rather than an online one….

that’s because the majority ( straight males) love the image of a naked woman. Two naked women doing naked women things are like… Well the utmost plataeu of Heavenly bliss for 90% of the male population.

Rough Draft: to answer your question I can count for 4 straight guys that have had more than just thoughts but other than Kinsey’s scale, that’s all I can vouch for. :)

I think I’ll have to give you great answer points for the rest of your life. Thanks.

Well I am straight. I like guys ALOT what can I say! But..here latetly I have been wondering what it would be like to kiss a girl. Alot of people call what I have bi-curious. So i guess the answer to your question in my opinion is yes. Because I will never be a lesbian, NEVER. I like the male body to much for that. But I mite consider kissing a girl just to see what its like. Im curious

It’s crossed my mind what it would be like to make out with another girl. But mostly, I am straight.
