Have any of you ever tried those car scratch remover pens and do they work well?

Asked by ZEPHYRA (21750points) May 21st, 2010

Do they really remove surface scratches or do they make the scratch even more obvious than before because of a possible change of the shade?

GQ. I am curious also.

Here’s an answer from “Popular Mechanics.

You only want to use them on small scratches. Because the color blends better. Don’t use it on deep scratches because the color won’t be even toned, or flush with the rest of the paint. For big jobs, leave it for the professionals handle it.

Depends how deep the scratch is. If it’s a surface scratch, rubbing compound and some polish should sort it easily, just remember to apply in a circular motion. If it’s gone through the layers then no pen will take it away unfortunately.

Nufinish Scratch Remover works wonders with a little elbow grease and a strong cloth.
I never did put much stock in the pens unless you like messy globs.
