Could my birth control be causing my irregular periods?

Asked by tney07 (59points) May 21st, 2010

I have been taking the pill for 4 years now. I jus switched 9 months ago. 3 months ago i started having irregular periods. The first month it started 3 days late, the 2nd month a week early and the 3rd month i had spotting and then i started late again. I had irregular periods before i got on the pill. Could my birth control be causing my irregular periods?

Irregular periods are common on the pill.

You should call the doctor who prescribed the pill, describe the changes to your period, and let him or her decide if it’s something normal or something that needs to be addressed.

The pill makes you more regular, but you should call your doctor and make sure everything is ok.
