Is this just another day at the office in big oil?

Asked by Cruiser (40449points) May 25th, 2010

Ok, can we finally agree that things have gotten out of hand and time to take away the keys to the White House?

Staff members at an agency that oversees offshore drilling accepted tickets to sports events, lunches and other gifts from oil and gas companies and used government computers to view pornography, according to an Interior Department report alleging a culture of cronyism between regulators and the industry. The MMS office had repeatedly accepted gifts, including hunting and fishing trips from the Island Operating Company, an oil and gas company working on oil platforms regulated by the Interior Department.

In at least one case, an inspector for the Minerals Management Service admitted using crystal methamphetamine and said he might have been under the influence of the drug the next day at work.

These accepted practices at the MMS are probably a left over from the Bush regime and even before but can we finally agree that things have gotten out of hand and time to do some serious reforming now? Heads need to roll over this event.

I was just wondering if the members of Congress are attempting to convene, in order to repeal the 1989 law, that does not allow the Feds to intervene in the oil spill operation of BP and other private enterprise?

I think people in high positions of power are so certain and sure they can get away with some things simply because they are the people working behind the curtains. Sure the media will make it look like something is being done, but very small things are being done that barely have an effect on the few individuals that should be responsible. This is just my uneducated opinion though lol.

This to me is the proverbial tip of the oil drilling rig and a lot more good old boy club BS is sure to surface.

If people had control over their own lives, the oil industry would be a history lesson.
