Heavy and medium truck and bus mechanics are in very much in demand in the transportation industry.

My ex-husband works as a manufacturing engineer. He worked his way up, beginning as a maintenance mechanic who repairs the machines required for manufacturing. You would perform preventative maintenance as well as repair and maybe even build the types of machinery used on production lines.

Computers. Lots of fixing, upgrading and building from scratch. Always hiring, all kinds of places. Computer stores, universities, businesses, government. Not to difficult to learn and a certain amount of creativity. Pay is decent. Don’t get your hands dirty.

Maintenance team in a warehouse or factory. It’s usually a good crack, too.

Car mechanics with good training are always in demand. If you accumulate your own tools, you can run your own shop some day.

Installation and maintenance of photovoltaic systems and wind turbines. A big growth field.

@Dr_Lawrence I think most shops [even Sears auto repair] require you to have your own tools.
