Awesome/cheap places to go/stay in Toronto?

My wife and I are going in august to see the Arcade Fire. We’re college kids (read poor), any tips on places to stay or stuff not to miss? Ps were driving from Michigan.

If you do Priceline bid your own price you can get a 4-star hotel downtown for $70 US.

Be sure to check out the Toronto Islands – cheap ferry across and then it’s free to wander around. The Second City is also one of the cheapest (and best) forms of evening entertainment – tickets are only $15 for students http://secondcity.com/page/student .
