Why are duvet covers so damned expensive?

This is one of the things in life that makes absolutely no sense to me. Here is my reasoning; duvet covers cost about $80–90, yet sheet sets (flat, fitted, and 2 pillowcases) often cost less than this. A duvet cover is essentially two flat sheets sewn together, so why are they so expensive?
