Is there a way to check all songs with an "!" next to them at once on iTunes?

Asked by ParaParaYukiko (6116points) June 2nd, 2010

Okay, this has been bugging me for a while. I accidentally let iTunes import an old library from before I reformatted my hard drive, so literally half of all my songs have the little ”!” next to them, meaning the file cannot be found.

So far I’ve had to go through each individual song and delete it (or press ctrl-click to get multiples at once) but I would love to find an easier way.

Any suggestions?

Songs that are missing cannot be dragged into playlists, so make a folder that reads “Songs that aren’t missing”, and drag your entire library into it. Then, make a smart playlist (on windows- hold down shift and then click the “new playlist” button, not sure exactly on mac), with the condition, “Playlist IS NOT Songs that are not missing”. This will isolate songs that are missing.

On a Mac, you can hold the “command” key and highlight several songs at once. I believe it’s the “alt” or the “windows” key on a Windows machine.

Thanks, I’ll give that a try! When you say make a folder to drag your non-missing songs, do you mean a playlist on iTunes or a folder on your hard drive?
