Ever been stood up? What were the circumstances and how did you feel?

Asked by janbb (62859points) June 2nd, 2010

I’m supposed to be having book club at my house – right now. Four people called and canceled and the other four or five are MIA. One person just e-mailed and said when is book club? I think it’s pretty hilarious except that I have two open bottles of wine and a warm brie. What’s your best “been stood up” story?

Awww, @janbb I hate that you’re on the other side of the pond. I’d have come to your book club. Assuming that you had invited me, of course.
Does your SO not remembering your birthday count as having been stood up? (ex SO)

@Trillian Other side of what pond? C’mon over for brie and wine!

I thought I heard a cork popping somewhere… if I pretend to have read the book will you pass me some brie?

janbb's avatar

@liminal Oh boy – this is shaping up to be a great book club! Do you want grapes or crackers with that brie?

liminal's avatar

Grapes please, I won’t even ask you to peel them.

I planned a play group one time. At the last minute everybody cancelled and I was left with lots of graham crackers, lots.

What was the book? Maybe we can have a good discussion about it while you get very drunk. ;)

South of Broad by Pat Conroy – his latest but by far not his best. Let’s just get drunk (and eat brie.)

chyna's avatar

Pass the cheese please. Another refill, too. Just set it down on that book by Pat what’s her name, hic.

janbb's avatar

@chyna Pat Conroy’s a man, lovey, but that’s o.k. – have some more wine. ( I love you guys!)

Trillian's avatar

Mmmm, thanks! Can I please have my grapes peeled? Move over Chyna!

May I crash this book club party?
I love brie, grapes and wine!
I’ll have some of the white please.

janbb's avatar

@wilma Welcome! Sauvignon blanc o.k.?

chyna's avatar

@Trillian Share those grapes!

janbb's avatar

Girls, girls – no fighting! (I actually said “fuck” at our last book club; it was fun.)

wilma's avatar

Why thank you @janbb it’s perfect!

chyna's avatar

@janbb Could that be why no one came to your book club this time? lol

janbb's avatar

@chyna You know, I hadn’t thought of that! What the fuck, maybe it’s time to start a new group.

chyna's avatar

Maybe we can call it the “What the fuck” group?

janbb's avatar

You’re on, girlie!

augustlan's avatar

Fuck yeah. I’m in!

perspicacious's avatar

@janbb Maybe not his best, but he’s one of my fav authors.

I am excited to join WTF group, but please, don’t let me polish of a bottle to myself ever again. My head is killing me this morning.

I was kind of stood up once, but not really. I left my cellphone in my car when I went inside a starbucks to meet a friend of mine. Good thing I brought a book. I sat there reading for an hour without realizing that time flew by so quickly. When I went back to the car, I had a message on my phone saying the friend couldn’t make it, was stuck at work ;P

janbb's avatar

This is actually not a bad idea. maybe we should start a Fluther WTF book club and have meetings once a month?

chyna's avatar

I’d have to check my busy social and work schedule first. Oh look… completely empty on both counts. I’m in.

Trillian's avatar

Schedule me in sugar!

augustlan's avatar

Do it! It could be like the “some progress” thread, except updated once a month rather than weekly. :)
