What, ultimately, is the point of "awareness"?

Asked by Nullo (22009points) June 4th, 2010

I was just informed by a banner ad that June is National Acne Awareness Month.

I guess I’m aware now that there’s acne? I dunno; the whole thing seems stupid.

Well, when it comes to more important issues, the point is to make you “aware” of the issues. Make you think about it, possibly leading you to do something about it. Something like “Acne Awareness Month” is just to draw extra attention to it, although to be honest, I don’t really care about it. :P

Oh for the love of god, do we really need to dedicate a month to pay homage to pimple cream?

I’d like to declare July National hemorrhoid awareness month.

I’d like to declare August international The Game Awareness Month.

“Awareness” is when you have a conversation in chat for a long time, and at one point reach awareness, i.e., you both show each other the same youtube clip simultaneously.

Maledictions, @Fyrius!
@zenele Simultaneity FTW!
