If I donate bone marrow to someone I know, who pays for my expenses?

Someone I know is in need of a bone marrow transplant. If I am a match, who will pay for my medical expenses for the procedure?

I would think the insurance company of the person who receives the bone marrow.

I would also assume that it would be the insurance covering the person receiving the transplant. And big hugs to you for offering to be a donor.

Perhaps Medicare will pay for donor’s costs. I recently got a kidney from my sister (bless her) and 100% of pretesting, doctors, anestesia, surgery, hospital, drugs (antibiotics, etc) hotel and some post op therapy were covered by Medicare.
my social worker said that is because it is cheaper for medicare to cover donor costs than to pay for dialysis for me.
