Do you use SlingBox and would you recommend it?

So even though I’ve known of the name for a while, I didn’t look into what it really was until yesterday. Slingbox for those who don’t know allows you to watch your tv wherever you are as long as you have a device (laptop/cellphone etc) w/ an internet connection. I would probably get the SOLO version.

Since I’ll be moving to a single bedroom apt this upcoming year, I am hoping to keep the bills to a minimum. In addition, I’m not a big TV watcher. So what if I purchased a Slingbox and hooked it up to my parent’s cable and router? That’s essentially free cable for me!

I’m looking for experiences of people that have used or use this device. Amazon customer reviews seem to be for it, but I like to know the community opinion :)

firstly i DON’T have one…

but i have heard lots of good things about these….

plus it’s Sony, who i would suggest are amongst the best, if a little pricey…

and if you are able to do it via your parents then it sounds like a good cheap option…

the convergence between tv tech and internet tech is a big area of growth at this time….if you live in the uk might i suggest you buy the june 3 issue of web user which has a big article on new ways to watch the tv on your pc…if you don’t live in the uk, well you might like to look into it….there are an increasing no of sites offering tv via the net, and also the other way round….and you might need a self sufficient method sometime?

having said that, if you don’t want to look into it at depth i would think the slingbox is a perfectly decent solution…but as i said i have never actually owned one!! but hope that helps…
