Asked by tadpole (709points) June 15th, 2010

it looks like it is because livemocha is internet based….

compared to rosetta stone, which i was looking at until i saw a reference to livemocha here on fluther…rosetta stone def needs a pc/mac with os…plus it looks like it is far more expensive….

anyone know how much the bits you pay for on livemocha are roughly?

Live Mocha is a language learning community that doesn’t require any money (there are premium pay courses though). The general idea is you choose the language you want to learn and select a language that you’re proficient at the same time. As you’re learning a new language, you’ll get feedback from native speakers. At the same time, you can provide feedback to other people who are learning the language that you’re proficient in.

You can find more info here: http://www.livemocha.com/language-learning-method

I’m don’t think the site is completely compatible with the iPad. A lot of the material (such as the lessons) are Flash based, which is not supported on the iPad Safari browser. Your best bet for the iPad is hope they make an app for the site in the future.

Hope this helps.
