Who like antagonistic character here?

Asked by Your_Majesty (8235points) June 17th, 2010

whether it from books, movies,or else there should be at least an antagonistic character. It’s unfair that most of them must ended up in bad ending letting the protagonist character to win the ending part. A contrary to real world where not every persons ended up happily in their life.

Anyway, who is your most favorite antagonistic character? From where? If you can change the fate of this character how would it be?

I like Mephistopheles, and would not change his fate.

At the moment, I can only think of Aizen from the Japanese manga Bleach. He is a great antagonist; if it was up to me, Ichigo would join him and they would own everyone in soul society lol. I’m such a damn nerd

Darth Vader is my hero!

I know what you mean Doctor D. As a child, I usually sided with the “bad guys” in movies, books, etc. When I was growing up, I thought Darth Vader was the coolest. Others——Emperor Zurg (the antagonist who battles with Buzz Lightyear in “Toy Story”), Venom from Spiderman, and one of my favorites when I was a kid “Electro” the Human Lightning Bolt from Spiderman.

And do you notice how most antagonists in comic books and sci fi’s almost always are “dark” or wear black? However, for some reason they always look the “coolest ” too. Darth Vader, of course! Lol.

I’d have to go with Montresor from The Cask of Amontillado. I like most Edgar Allan Poe antagonists. But he, in particluar, has such a raw hate for Fortunato that makes him so intriguing. I’d like him to get lost in the catacombs and have Fortunato sober up.

Marik Ishtar & Yami Bakura from Yu-Gi-Oh. Light Yagami from Death Note. Naraku & Sesshomaru from InuYasha. Lucius & Draco Malfoy, & Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter series. Orochimaru from Naruto. Oh, & myself.

A handful:
– Richard Boon – The Tall T (1957) (along with “The Chink”)
– Jack Lemon – The Great Race (1965)
– Temuera Morrison – as Jake “the Muss” in, Once Were Warriors (1994)
– Kevin Spacey – as Buddy Ackerman in, Swimming with Sharks (1994)
– James Earl Jones – as Thulsa Doom in, Conan The Barbarian (1982)

@ipso You just reminded me about GlenGarry GlenRoss. I’d go with Dave Moss’s character played by Ed Harris. I’d have George anonamously tell the cops and have Dave arrested.

The Wise Man and The Fool from the “O.D. Feelin’” episode of The Hitchhiker. I suppose what happened to them had to happen, but I think there’s a bunch more stories that could be done with those two.

@MRSHINYSHOES My son loves Darth Vader too. He actually only refers to him as Lord Vader.

For me, I would say the Malfoy’s in HP. I wouldn’t change the outcome though.

@py_sue, I like your style! Favorite quotes: “Now I’m done with you.”, & “Coffee’s for closers only.”

I’m sure I have a favorite antagonist, but I can’t think of it.

The first thing that came to mind with this question was Ozymandias from “Watchmen” (the graphic novel, not the movie). He didn’t have a bad ending.

@Seaofclouds Your son knows well. Boys seem to know naturally what looks cool, and Darth Vader is certainly cool. There are very few “superheroes” who look cool (according to my definition), with the exception of The Dark Knight (Batman) and Black Bolt (below).

Charming villains. I think my favorite would have to be Count Dracula. I wouldn’t change a thing.

Dracula. I wouldn’t change his fate though, because it all ended up well, and he was content with that conclusion in the end, even if he experienced two seconds of true happiness for the first time in like, 300 years.
What happened to Lucy was rather unfortunate, however.

Also, Don Sebastian De Villanueva, who’s another vampire. The book The Black Castle really explored the gray area between good and evil, and shot the whole thing down the drain. I wouldn’t change his fate either though apart from actually letting him rest after book one. Like Saint-German, he’s got plenty of adventures after, but really they’re all rehashes of book one, which makes it kinda disappointing.

Books like that make me think that there never is any really evil people, but I am reminded of…Woundwort, from Watership Down. Now that fucker was mean, and even when you hear the extremely sad and touching story of his youth, his villainy still stands out. Oh it’s justified alright, but he’s still king of all bastards.

I’m a real fan of villains and antagonists though, and I always end up, wanting it or not, paying extra attention to them in books and movies and video games. I like seeing their stories, and how they ended up like they are, or seeing them as such.(And often realizing they’re really all fine peeps.) It’s always so much more interesting than heroes.
Magus, Saruman, Calisto, Oroku Sake…the only antagonist I recall not really liking was Voldermort from Harry Potter.

I’m also quite a fan of antiheroes, Cloud Strife, Yuri Hyuga, Tony Stark, Conan.

But yeah, as an actual answer, I choose Michael Myers from Halloween. He fucking rocks. And by then I’m starting to loose myself in the definition of antagonist…
