What should I make a video about?

Asked by nailpolishfanatic (6637points) June 19th, 2010

I have a youtube account and I just wanted to make a video of something fun. I mostly do make up stuff or just whatever comes to mind. You can check out my channel-estherni1.
I was thinking of maybe a video to some song or something like that, but I don’t know which song:(

You might make a video about something important in your life (cats, death of a loved one, a marriage, a friend who has inspired you, etc.

Why don’t you wait till you have a good idea, and then make the account?

A school summer camp I attended for less than 6 days held a small class that was able to make a short zombie video in 10 hours of work. Only problem, though, is that it was too horribly cheesy and pointless and inaudible for it to make sense. But it’s not like we could tell the people who made it “ROFLMAO u guys So0ck baulz lol.”

Making good videos about anything is hard. Everything has to be very well planned without giving off the fact that it is planned, and the editing has to be sensible and WMM-gimmick free. I don’t know enough to go further into detail for you, because I haven’t made anything, either.

@ lol ROFLMAO u guys suck baulz xD That’s shit!!! :)

Yeah well, I was thinking first of maybe a song or something, like maybe Cooler than me by Mike Posner or something….I could make me dancing to it or something like that.what do you think of that idea?

Fred931's avatar

I don’t think a lot of people like normal people in normal clothes with normal crappy cameras with normal crappy microphones dancing and singing to music. It doesn’t look or sound good, and those are the only two senses you can convey with just the existence of the video, but you can always use speech and text to tell viewers the scenarios of the other 3 senses the characters are experiencing. Music videos don’t need those other 3 anyway, so just don’t do another YouTube video of that. Please.

@Fred931 , lol I won’t then….Geess! I have no idea of what to do, I was also thinking of make up

Just stare into the camera. No expression or anything for 10 min.

@ChazMaz And then cut to Rick Astley.

nailpolishfanatic's avatar

@ChazMaz , hahaha I don’t think I can do that. Kinda creepy and I think I couldn’t also make it because I love talking!

Fred931's avatar

@Thesexier Actually, you could just record yourself staring for about 30sec-1min and loop that.

nailpolishfanatic's avatar

lol I’ll try it, and what should the video called?

FireMadeFlesh's avatar

@Thesexier Well then wait till you have an idea before you post a video. You don’t have to make one, and unless you have a truly good idea its a little pointless.

nailpolishfanatic's avatar

@FireMadeFlesh , Ok, But why can’t I make a make up look or something like that.

FireMadeFlesh's avatar

@Thesexier Sure, you can, but I am assuming here that you want your video to get lots of hits. If you want a lot of people to watch your video and appreciate your work, it is better to wait until you have a really good idea. YouTube is overflowing with videos with only a few hits.

creative types need to find their own voice…i think some of the comments here are saying something along those lines…start off with something that inspires you, like a book or a film, something that gives you an idea…asking for adivce is fine, but then you end up having to give too much credit to everyone else….i’m saying get the balance right….

nailpolishfanatic's avatar

@tadpole , wow that’s really deep.

@Thesexier as long as it’s helpful too :-)

It is always amusing to have a collaborator do something odd (like pretending to fish in a fountain in a busy park or shopping mall) are record the reaction of bystanders.
