Am I the only one who notices that microwaves smell bad?

Everytime I go near a (running) microwave, I get this acrid smell that makes me want to puke. I know it’s not just something wrong with ours, because I smell it at everyone’s house. It also makes the food taste & smell bad (in my opinion).

Am I the only one who notices this? Or do most people just ignore it because microwaves are convenient?

For the record, I have a bloodhound’s sense of smell. It sucks.
