How do you dress up your cup of coffee?

Asked by robmandu (21331points) March 18th, 2008

In paper, ceramic, stainless steel, plastic, styrofoam? If a conscious decision, why? Any special prep before pouring in your coffee?

For example, I like to pre-heat my tall ceramic mug (not destined for the landfill) so as not to over-cool the coffee going in.

@ home I use the largest mug that’s clean, pour about 60% coffee, 40% skim milk, and sugar to suit the quantity. I hate artificial sweeteners, so it’s sugar-in-the-raw or regular sugar for me.

I take mine in any cup, and black as hell.

One of my friends owns a coffee shop and I bought a mug from him. It’s huge, handmade clay. If I can I prefer to drink from it. If I can’t I’ll go with whatever else is around.

I put the milk and sugar in the cup first and stir it to a froth before pouring in the coffee. It makes it kind of like a latte.

i add my cream then my coffee then my sugar and i drink it in a pirates cup my brother left me when he left for scotland! or an eeyore cup!

I make gallons of it every week for church services, smells good, grind the beans at COSTCO, smells great. Never had a cup of the evil brew in my life! Don’t tell Howard Schultz, he may make move away from Seattle.

@perchik, clay… nice!

At home I like to brew my coffee in a percolator on the stove. I think the flavor from that is so much stronger. We like to call it “high octane” coffee.

With that I like cream and sugar.

The coffee at work? Just sugar.

Stainless steel travel mug with a “no spill lid.” The cup manages to keep things warm ‘til about mid-day. But, keeps my iced drinks cold all freakin’ day!

I used to be “hot and black” kind of guy, but now like three spoons of sugar and a good dose of half and half or heavy whipping cream if we have it in the fridge. I’ve also been known to sneak a shot of bourbon in there too.

@birdleg, bourbon… very nice!

It depends on where I’m drinking the coffee. In a coffee shop, I generally use the paper/cardboard cup; on the way to work, my plastic travel mug; at home, a plain white stoneware mug.

Preparing it at home – I either make espresso and mix it about half and half with microwaved milk for a latte, and then enough sugar to take the edge off the bitterness, or I drink it black with (again) just enough sugar to take the edge off the bitterness.

@my fiancee’s: very strong and black in a stainless steel travel mug (if he’s feeling saucy, it comes with bailey’s)
@work: double vanilla creamer in 1/2 cinnabon, 1/2 seattle’s best coffee makes it drinkable out of a ceramic travel mug
@home: an occassional french press cup out of whatever’s handy and clean

has anyone purchased one of those ceramic cups that look like a disposable paper cup? the one i saw had a white silicon lid. i was concerned that it’d be too hot for my little hands to carry around, but it was kinda nifty

@surly, using saucy in a sentence… well done! I’ll hafta try the Bailey’s bit for my s.o.

The bourbon is kind of a variation on an Irish coffee. Try sweetening the coffee with a little maple syrup if you want to really drive your taste buds nuts!

@birdleg, sounds like I need to try hanging out with you a bit. ;-)

I just pour it in a mug and give it an ice cube to play with! It seems to make it happy!!!

A healthy slug of Drambuie or Heather Cream works just fine….
