How exactly would you differentiate what a man means when he calls a women hot as opposed to when he calls her pretty?

Iman = beautiful
Naomi Campbell = hot

@Norah If I told you you were pretty you should take it to mean that I find your appearance esthetically pleasing. You should not infer from that that I was discussing your sexual attractiveness.

If I told you you look hot, then you should take it to mean that I see you as sexually attractive whether I am inclined to approach you with sexual interest or not.

HOT = sexually stimulating

Pretty = I wish I knew her

If he says she is pretty…he is interested in her and wants to get to know her or at the very least admire her for her beauty. ;)

If he says she is hot…he just wants a beer and a ham sandwich!

Depends on the context. My girlfriend is beautiful. Everybody knows it. She is also hot. I know that, but not everybody knows that.

Wow… this question is hard to answer because I think that age plays a huge role in how these words get used. Not that I can speak for everyman out there, but I would say that pretty is used more for something of beauty. Something which the eye and sole can appreciate just from looking upon it. Hot I would say comes more from the that raises some of the primative desires inside me.

Pretty is visually beautiful in a delicate way, not necessarily erotic. Little girls are often pretty. Flowers are also pretty. They look nice, and are visually pleasing and aesthetically well arranged in a bright or cute way.

Hot is about sexuality. It may not necessarily be about looks so much as energy and attitude. He generally means she turns him on a lot, or he imagines she could turn him on a lot.

My daughter is pretty.

Pretty means exactly that. Pretty. Usually referring to the face.
Hot means very pretty (beautiful) with a touch of sexual nature or more than a touch. It could be having a curvy figure, or a sexy walk or sexy voice, or simply a sexy charismatic nature about them or smoky eyes (bedroom eyes as some would describe it) or even a rare interest, or being smart.
Example my son likes pretty women who are intelligent. He thinks the combo makes them hot.
It really depends on the person.
Point is certain attributes and characteristic can make certain people not considered to be hot to the majority and yet be considered hot to a minority. It really depends on preferance.
Like when I was younger most guys thought me pretty. The moment I fell in love with my husband I suddenly became hot because I was unavailable. LOL
So it goes with many people.

Different people like different things, of couse.

And ideals change over time.

And beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
