Any ENT's around or people with experience about the ears?

Asked by tan235 (877points) June 26th, 2010

so I wrote a big post up about ear infections a couple of days ago, it seems my ears were getting the better, they became blocked after I used a netie pot and drove me insane, i still have a ringing in my ear – however my left ear, the doctor told me, had to much ear wax to see my ear drum, my right ear drum was swollen and canal a bit red – so she gave me ear drops which I used on both ears – last night i decided to put some drops of olive oil in my left ear to help soften the ear wax and now I can’t hear!!
Its driving me absolutely bonkers!
I“m guessing it’s the olive oil and not some syncopated extension of a middle ear infection which my doctor didn’t know if i had, i’ve got antibiotics at home now that she prescribed but told me to hold off if it’s getting better – and it is, but now i think i’ve totally messed up my ear, i have a gig in 3 days!!!
help what can i do to clear my ear now!
it feels different than when the other ear was blocked, I can hear myself in my head which I couldn’t with the other ear like when you wear ear plugs, so i’m assuming it’s all because i put the olive oil in my ear which i’m now deeply regretting and hate olive oil because of it – help!!!!

thanks

I’ve had this for a week and 2 days!
grrrrrrrrrr…......... i’ve tired the neti pot again with the whole blocking the back of your throat with your tongue and swishing it around your head – no relief, i had no fever but did have bad sinuses .. i’m a singer so get this all the time, just never to the ears!
it’s driving me insane!!!!
I don’t even know if antibiotics would work!

sorry one more thing I have noticed that if i pop my ear ( close my mouth and nose and blow) it seems to release it for a little bit but then clogs again – does this make it internal?

If your physician said that you have wax and prescribed drops, that is all you should be using in your ears. Return to your physician for wax removal, or consult an ear specialist if your primary doesn’t do that.

In the grand scale of medical issues, ear wax build-up is minor. Considering your dramatic reaction, I hope you never have to deal with a true emergency or acute illness.
