Did I sprain my ankle?

Asked by xStarlightx (416points) June 26th, 2010

So today at work I was moving around alot and I didn’t have many breaks, and my ankle is killing me for some reason.

Is it more of like a tired muscle or do you think I sprained it?

It normally takes some kind of physical trauma to strain your ankle. If it is very swollen and black and blue, you should have it medically examined.

If not, soak it in cold water and elevate it between soakings, or use an ice pack, 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off.

Well I was on it for like..a good four hours just walking around, or do you mean like..landing on my foot wrong or something? In terms of physical trauma?

If it is sprained you will know it. It sounds like you are just sore. I have sprained mine a lot from skateboarding. It will swell up a lot if it is sprained. You will know something is wrong.

You probably just strained it. If it was sprained, it have swollen up to 3 or 4 times its size, and be too painful to walk on (at least, without crying a LOT). If it was broken, it would have turned black by now. Take some ibprofen, drink water, put an ice pack on it, and let it rest. If you have epsom salts, taking a bath with those might also help.
