Are there many Fluther members who are on some sort of disability?

Asked by breedmitch (12171points) June 27th, 2010

This question and the responses given so far have me wondering about the health (mental and physical) of the collective.
How many of you receive some sort of compensation from the US government (or your own government) for what is deemed a disability?

I am not, yet, but should be. I have chronic pain, kidney disease, and a host of other auto-immune problems. My doctor said I qualified for the ‘disabled’ label years ago, but having been a stay-at-home mom for many years, Social Security said I didn’t have enough work credits to qualify. I foolishly let it go.

I am color blind.

It kinda sucks, but then all the super powers we color blind people have kind of even things out.

@bob_ As long as you can tell the difference between ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise and wasabi you should be o.k., it’s the sandwiches that matter.

I am to @bob_ as Robin is to Batman. Colour blind, that is.

I also don’t always make sense. But my super powers make up for that, too.

I receive disability benefits from Social Security for ALS.. I receive additional benefits from a long term disability insurance policy. I, am colorblind as well, but since I’m already receiving the maximum benefit, I think I’ll just keep that one to myself, for now.
