What do you think about Chris Brown fans?

Asked by meagan (4670points) June 28th, 2010

I believe last night Chris Brown preformed a tribute to Michael Jackson on the BET awards. So many people on twitter were talking about how well he did, how he should be forgiven, etc.
Chris Brown even cried on stage. But I’m not buying it.

What do you think this says about Chris Brown fans? Do you believe that people who are more likely to forgive will be victims of domestic violence later on?

One person even said “chris brown was great on the awards! i still mess w/ him! rihanna just needs to learn how to fight back! i still love her though! ” I really can’t believe that someone would say something like this.

I don’t see why anyone cares.

Look, I understand that what he did was wrong and unacceptable, but that doesn’t mean that his life should be ruined forever. People change. People get second chances. If he’s changed, then it’s time to let it go and let him go on with his life.

@DominicX Maybe his life shouldn’t be “ruined forever”, but he shouldn’t get a chance to be some kind of influence over his younger fans. There isn’t any coming back from this – http://corvedacosta.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/rihanna-face-beaten.jpg

Ughhh, Michael Jackson is a chapter in our history that we best forget before he turned freakazoid: He was cool when he was a regular black guy but his coolness factor took a huge dive when he started to tinker with his self. It is a tremendous loss of raw talent and a huge shame what he turned out to be, and even sadder how he died. Fame is not always good and it destroyed a great talent like MJ. It is such a sad event. He used to be the king of pop.

Damn!

I agree with DominicX. And yes I did see her face, but she is better now (physically) and life goes on. There are men and women being beat right now as we type our answers.

@Kraken He made Thriller, man… Thriller.

People who apologize for him kind of disgust me. But you can be a fan of someone’s work without thinking they’re a great person. (I like Roman Polanski’s films, but I’d still like to punch him in the throat.) So what I think really depends on the individual fan.

@DominicX I’m In agreement. The second comment quoted though I agree is just plain awful. In my perspective, the guy made a huge mistake and although we dont know whether or not he’s learned from it, we do know that he’s evidently paid for it.

As far as the question goes – not necessarily. I’m with the belief that people do make mistakes and most of the time they’re inclined to learn from them. For something like this, I dont think he should be locked up and reviled for eternity.

I think they need to find someone else to be a fan of.

I think they are not thinking about violence or what’s the right thing to do.

@DominicX From my experience, people don’t change. They may change they’re actions, but they’re still the same person. Eventually, their true personality comes out, one way or another.

@DominicX I don’t think people change. That’s just from my personal experience. I’ve been in an abusive relationship. I was told many times by the guy that things would change, that he would never put his hands on me again, that he was so sorry, etc. He cried too. Big deal. Two days later he was at it again. I like some of Chris Brown’s music. Do I support him? No. Would I pay money to see him in concert? Not after what he did. My opinion of him will forever be influenced by what he did. But that’s life. He made a bad choice. He has to suffer the consequences of losing a few fans over it.

“They may change they’re actions, but they’re still the same person.”
That means they changed…........

Draconess25's avatar

@Blackberry No, it means their actions changed.

ItalianPrincess1217's avatar

@Draconess25 I agree. Just because someone changes their actions doesn’t mean they themselves have changed. Changing actions can be a very temporary thing. Eventually a person’s true colors will show.

Blackberry's avatar

@Draconess25 Unless you meant temporarily, actions are what we use to criticise these types of people, so if they stop the action, they have changed. Either way, in this particular case we can’t determine if chris brown will even do this again.
How else would one be able to determine if one has changed? We certainly can’t search their thoughts. Having an episode with a few bad apples does not mean people are not capable of changing.

Facade's avatar

@Blackberry That’s not necessarily true. A person can stop physically abusing another, but if they still want to, they haven’t changed. They’ve just stopped acting on their desires and impulses.

Blackberry's avatar

@Facade I understand, although isn’t that the change? With couples having a hard time that go to therapy, they are not better after a few sessions, but eventually they will change for better (or worse).

Facade's avatar

@Blackberry That is a change, yes. But why stay with someone who still wants to hit you?

Blackberry's avatar

@Facade I agree, although I would not be able to tell if they actually still wanted to hit me (unless they actually stated it), for someone in such a position, a physical change may be enough to keep them trapped to look forward to another change that could possibly be better.
