Is there an association that aids buskers abroad?

Asked by Anatelostaxus (1428points) June 29th, 2010

Could there be such a thing: an organisation that ‘employs’ buskers (street artists), allowing them to perform and be ‘paid’ or just have some sort of support?
just curious..
cheers….

What country are you in?

Most countries have programs that offer performing arts grants for various things—including, I’m sure you could justify, busking.

Of course, you could just busk (?) to fund your travels, stay in hostels, etc.. I believe that’s how most do it ;-)

@grumpyfish Yes, that’s how I’ve done in the past.
Was thinking about resuming in the near future.. but see the problem is in some countries it is not appreciated i.e. Italy ( at least not in all parts )
So having a low budget to start with, I cannot depend on performance whilst in certain areas.
( thank you for your very positive comment, though )

If I could see your hat, I’d be putting money in it. I love buskers.

If you are considering coming to the US, there is ample opportunity. Every major city I’ve been to has buskers and musicians on their streets. There are also things like The Renaissance Festivals, which is where a couple acquaintances worked, and they are now on America’s Got Talent and headed to Las Vegas.

Depending upon where you choose to live and how good you are will make a difference on whether you need to supplement your income or not. And you probably won’t be able to get into the country unless you have a work visa or significant other.

Keep claiming your pitch, wherever you take it!!

In many cities, you have to have a permit to be a street performer of any kind. Be careful to follow the rules.
