Does the temperature you feel most comfortable in change with age?

Asked by PandaMonium (64points) June 29th, 2010

I feel like I’m the odd one who is always chilly or cold.I’m wondering if this is just because I’m young (18) and I’ll prefer air conditioning more when I’m older like my parents/aunt/uncles. Has your temperature gauge changed?

It did change for me, but I think because I lost weight, not because I got older. I was way more insulated when I was fat. Now I get chilly.

I was constantly cold unless it was 100 degrees outside until I had kids. I’ve pretty much been on fire for 10 years now. My grandma is in her 70s and she’s all the time freezing and she used to be hot.

Feeling chilled is common people that might be classified as elderly. Of course everyone is different. It depends on your size, your environment and plenty of other factors.
Have you been tested for anemia?

PandaMonium's avatar

Yeah I’m healthy, I’m not anemic. My mom was borderline anemic when she was my age though.

@PandaMonium alright, that’s good. Just wanted to make sure :)

Usually its the other way around, you mind the cold the older you get. I’m the opposite myself however, the older I’ve gotten the more I hate the heat. I always look forward to fall/winter. It is too warm for me these days if the temperature is above 30 degrees f. I’m not kidding.

For the entire first half of my life, I was freezing all the time, but finally, around 50 or so (yes, I intend to live to at least 100) I warmed up, and I hardly ever get cold now. It seems to be since my weight topped 150.

Yes…I am 50 now and the last few years the heat bothers me more..but, hot flashes on 100 degree days is rather self explanatory. lol

I’m the same now as I’ve been all my life. I like it to be around 73.

well since Oregon weather is mostly rain I am used to it and I certainly prefer the cooler temperatures. Sometimes I wish it was snowing.

As people grow old, their circulation tends to deteriorate. Therefore, they are more likely to feel cool or uncomfortable at the same temperatures than they did when they were younger

SmoothEmeraldOasis's avatar

Well, I still do not like extreme hot or warmer temperatures. It is much easier to geta warm and comfortable than to cool off for me. @ItsAHabit I am not sure how old an individual has to be before getting to where I would feel like you mentioned above.
