whatthefluther's avatar

What are you listening to this very moment? (Part 2)

Asked by whatthefluther (13830points) July 2nd, 2010

With well over 750 responses, my original question from September of last year is still going strong thanks to many, including @boffin, @Leanne1986, @Bluefreedom, @RareDenver, @jonsblond, and fly (aka @jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities). But, it is taking quite a bit of time to load, so let’s start with a fresh question but a repeat of the prior details:

What are you listening to? If music, what particular song or album?
Or, perhaps you are listening to your boss, your mother, the jackhammer ripping up the asphalt outside your door, the traffic speeding by, birds chirping or perhaps even the voice or voices in your or @YARNLADY’s head?

As for me, I’m listening to the Arcade Fire Funeral album.

The sounds of the breeze soughing through my white pines. The annoyed crows hectoring a red hawk; caws and screams. The little house wren singing her enormous song.

syz's avatar

@gailcalled The wrens are my favorites – tons of attitude and vocal ability packed in a fiesty little bird.

gailcalled's avatar

@syz: In Lake Placid (at 1600 feet) we heard the winter wren all the time, speaking of attitude as a ratio of tininess. I never saw them however. We were surrounded by wren-coloured woods, which didn’t help.

As close to blessed silence as it gets on a warm urban California evening with the freeway over that way and the airport over yonder and three computer keyboards clicking softly somewhere in the house. I can hear my husband cough now and again and set his coffee cup down.

Thank God the neighbor’s dog, which barked for three years nonstop, went his way before we opened all the windows to summer.

[Edit] Damnation. I spoke too soon. Loudest domestic disturbance coming from the house across the street that I have heard in this neighborhood in years. She means it, too, I’d say, buddy. Must be about time for me to check out my new Leonard Cohen CD.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@whatthefluther Do I need professional help? Those are some scary posts. That made me go back to the AC/DC, Hard as a Rock, while doing my Angus impression.

whatthefluther's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe….Professional help? Well that is certainly an option, but there are many more. Let’s review the issues and go from there.
@jjmah is indeed hot. She is gorgeous and fun and a little wild. She is also madly in love and very much taken. You can imagine her in bed or anywhere else and you’ll get worked up every time, but forget about it…. there are other issues here.
Now, I seem to have missed the question about the difference between homosexuality, necrophilia, zoophilia, and crapphilia (I’m not so sure I’m sorry you couldn’t remember the term) so I’m not sure where that was headed but I am concerned how and why homosexuality was being compared to the others. That of course, is another issue, but my primary concern based on your plea for help, is how you came to play Hard As A Rock while reviewing such a question. And apparently, you did so while initially donning a shirt, tie, coat and shorts and during which you removed and fondled your coat, and then had the audacity to remove all else via a striptease down to your briefs depicting the Australian flag…..and you are not even an Aussie! But you couldn’t leave well enough alone and you went beyond Hard As A Rock to actually mooning God knows whoever was within eyeshot of you, probably even unsuspecting neighbors. I imagine (altho it pains me) it going down something like this .
But it didn’t go down, now, did it? So, how do we move beyond Hard As A Rock? Well, you can certainly get the professional help you mentioned. Now I don’t know what the going rate is where you are, but here in Los Angeles, the good pros are pricey….you know, you get what you pay for and if you want a Ballbreaker, and can afford it, I say, hell, go for it. Or, you can simply take matters into your own hands. Hey, don’t look at me…...it is your own fault! Next time, try thinking about the sound of the fan rather than @jjmah lying in bed!
Glad to be of service…..I mean, glad to provide guidance, you perv!
See ya (or likely, rather not)......Gary/wtf

Ai No Corrida – Chaz Jankel

The chorus has been in my head for eons! and I had no memory of the rest of the song, what the title was, who did it or when it came out – nothing. Just “Ai no corrida”. I hadn’t heard it since I was ~10. Called my brother-in-law, the jazz musician, in Florida, sang the chorus over the speakerphone, and he told me straightaway what it was, and then I found three versions of it on YouTube! Thank goodness I can sing. It’s a toss up between the big hit version by Quincy Jones and the original for the one I like best. The woman who covered it in 2005, meh, not so much.

I had no idea that A) Quincy Jones didn’t write this song, and B) Jankel was in Ian Dury and The Blockheads!

She’s Got You By The Balls, AC/DC

DeanV's avatar

@jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities A little weird. There’s a video/song here. It sounds a teeny bit too much like Muse for my tastes, but it’s alright.
Waiting on the whole album before I make judgements, though.

DeanV's avatar

@uberbatman That’s a great song. Have you heard any of their album?
I’m partial to the remixes myself.
The Chemical Brothers – The Salmon Dance.

Damn it, why can’t links handle parenthesis? That’s the Crookers remix of said Chemical Brothers song, but I guess the little parenthesis part isn’t going to show up.

El_Cadejo's avatar

@dverhey that song came from the cd “tons of friends” unfortunately, as great as that song is, the rest of the cd isnt as much. There are a couple good songs on there, but nothing half as good as we love animals.

This song is pretty awesome though.

awesome remix btw. But nothin compared to the original :P

DeanV's avatar

@uberbatman Yeah, I wasn’t a big fan of the album either. There were a few good tracks (“No Security” is an awesome dubstep parody) but the rest didn’t seem so great. I really liked the work with Major Lazer, but that was a lot more Major Lazer and less Crookers.

I agree on the remix. It’s pretty hilarious, but the Chemical Brothers version is much more quirky and silly.

@aprilsimnel no seriously… i cant stop listening to that damn song now lol. I just keep replaying it on youtube lol

aprilsimnel's avatar

@uberbatman, right? He shoulda released this joint in June!

Choice lyrics:
Yeah, go ‘n’ run ‘n’ tell ya little boyfrien’!
Oooh, I really hate yo’ ass right now!”
I tried to tell my mama, but she said that, “This is one for your dad.” (Your dad! Your dad! Your dad!)
Whyyyyyyyy!?

I heard the radio edit on the BBC Radio2 website this morning, and that one just makes you think, “Where’s the vulgar version?”

El_Cadejo's avatar

id love to get my hands on a radio edit so i can play it on my radio show.
