How do I get the old Google News Format back?

Asked by ETpro (34605points) July 3rd, 2010

Either Google made a change to the Google News format a few days back, or I inadvertently blew up my previous settings somehow. It used to format in a two column display with some subjects on the left and others on right. All of a sudden, all topics are on the in one big center column with a very thin left column of control links I don’t need and what strikes me as a useless right column called Recent, which is a bit narrower than the center column.

I want my old news page back. This is NOT an improvement. I looked for controls to adjust the presentation, but couldn’t find any. Am I stuck with the new format, or am I missing something that lets me control it and get back to my previous setup?

Official response from Google employee, on the recent google news change…

“Hi everyone,

We realize that many of you are long-time Google News users, and some of you have been with us from the very beginning 8 years ago. It hasn’t changed much over that period, but the redesigned version has been live for less than 24 hours. So, we encourage you to give it a bona fide try. We’ll still be here in a few days if you want to provide your feedback or suggestions about any of the changes or features.”

Here is the only contact form I could find, to tell them how you feel about it. I say fill it out & give them a piece of your mind.

@rpmpseudonym Thank you so much. At least I can do that. We need to invent a word for the exact antonym of “improved.” Software and social media demand it. Perhaps that should be my next question. :-)
