What gets you going in a morning?

Asked by Mat74UK (4662points) July 7th, 2010

Are you a “must have a coffee” person, could it be a fried breakfast?
Is it something more? eg: seeing your kids getting ready for school?
Do you have a routine that can’t be broken?
Does it all depend on what you did the night before?
Does it all depend on what you have planned for the day?

Coffee, weed, bread, and an apple, and I’m all set.

When the dogs need to go out, I have to get up.
When my wife is at home, her kisses get me going, any time of day.

shego's avatar

When my boyfriend gets home, gives me a kiss followed by breakfast in bed.

First thing outside to let my geese out of their barn, feed the cats, then mega coffee, a sit with my laptop, check email, check fluther ( now..that I am an addict lol ) shower…launch into the day.

What is this ‘morning’ you speak of? ~

I’m a major night owl, to the point where I now sleep during the day and wake up in the late afternoon most of the time. No matter what time of day it is when I awake, my routine is the same: bathroom, cigarette, soda (SpriteZero, so no caffeine). Definitely no food. If I eat, I’m going back to sleep for sure. On a normal day, it can take me up to two hours to feel fully awake, time I usually spend catching up with Fluther work and playing games on the computer.

The only time I can just snap to it is if I’m about to be late for something really important. Then I can run around like a madwoman to do what needs doing, but then I just crash and burn later in the day.

I’ve been awake all night. I need to get up now – I feel zombified. Some cereal will keep me ticking over. I’ll probably come home and hit the hay for an hour later. Normally, a shower, breakfast and a top of the morning to ya does it!

I’m with @augustlan in that I’m a night owl. Nothing REALLY gets me going in the morning. I’d much rather go to sleep when the sun rises and wake up early in the afternoon. I’ve always been that way, my parents have told me stories about what a terror I was at night as an infant & toddler. Then, as a child, I actually REMEMBER being a pain in the butt at night. I need loads of caffeine to function in the actual morning, even if I’ve had a full nights rest.

shame, fear, and apathy. . . i’ll be getting up around noon tomorrow.

DominicX's avatar

Just the knowledge that the day will waste away if I spend any more time in bed. :P I know that a shower wakes me up, so I usually take a shower the second I get out of bed.

“Wood!” Nothing like good old morning glory to get the day off to a good start.

If I’m lucky, a naked woman laying next to me! :-/ that’d get me going…Failing that it’s usually two or three strong mugs of coffee, besides that I have to feed the moggies otherwise they start tearing the stairs carpet to bits………

Double espresso, cigarette and a handful of prescription pills have been my routine for the last 8 months. Now my real motivator is the happy face of my niece; every day is a joful adventure for her. Makes me feel about 25 years younger, bless her.

Coffee. Cold water. Brush teeth plus Listerine – POW! -

Second cup of coffee and I’m ready for fluther: the jellies who are up late talk to me – and I join their midnight party – while here it’s only 6 a.m. – sometimes the talk will be about all kinds of sexual and explicit topics – night chat – I laugh and sip my coffee – brushing the sleep sand from the corners of my eyes – barely able to keep up with the chatter. Especially in the chat room. Here I can magnify the page and take my time.

Summers I have a lot of free time.

September to June – morning rush – soccer mom stuff.

:-)

Bathroom, food.

Coffee, definitely. I’m having some right now. God can start the Apocalypse or there can be an invasion, but all that shit better stay out of my way until I’ve had my coffee, haha.

tinyfaery's avatar

If I don’t get up in time to fill the cat bowls, it will be constant meowing that gets me going. It’s quite annoying. If the kings and queens are fed the only thing that can wake me up is time. I hate the morning.

Mtl_zack's avatar

First things first, take a piss. Then go and get coffee. If anyone talks to me before I’ve had my fix they’re gonna regret it. While I’m drinking my coffee I read the newspaper and twitter.

My mornings are 11pm, when I wake up for work. I believe that the day doesn’t start until you sweat, so I get going by working out.

aprilsimnel's avatar

Cawfee. Yeah. I’m having a cup right now.

A wee bit of yoga and a long hot shower gets me going good!

Coffee!

Things on my plate that needs to be done!

When it’s time to eat lunch. That is the way my summer has been on everyday except the ones where I have to do work in the morning like cutting the grass.

A paycheck.

My boyfriend and I always talk on the phone we’re fairly long distance before we both start work and after that conversation I am usually content to go on with my day.

Aster's avatar

Who gets going?? Maybe ice cold milk, cereal with blueberries and a killer Bichon attack.

SuperMouse's avatar

Spinning class. I wake up at 5:00 to make it to the 5:15 class and I am always pretty sure I will pass out before I get behind the wheel. Once I get to class and get moving I am wide awake and ready to face the day.

downtide's avatar

Depends what I’m doing that day. My usual routine is shower first, followed by a cup of tea. I don’t know why but I find tea much nicer than coffee for that first drink of the day. Coffee comes later.

Jude's avatar

My cat sitting on my chest, looking down at me waiting to be fed. And, coffee brewing.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

I’m not a morning person so nothing gets me going but if the kids are happy, I’ll be happier waking up.

zenele's avatar

I think @SuperMouse wins. (I’m jealous.)

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@SuperMouse My god, spinning class at 5 15 am – that is literally my nightmare, lol.

perspicacious's avatar

A shower, chocolate milk, and a couple cups of coffee.

downtide's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir ANYTHING at 5.15 am would be my nightmare.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@downtide Well, not anything…~

downtide's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir at 5.15am, even that. :-D

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@downtide I’d try to convince you..I’m very good at convincing

downtide's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir You’d have to be very, very good… ^_~

WestRiverrat's avatar

My dogs. They literally drag me out of bed if I am late for walking and feeding them.

augustlan's avatar

I am in awe of @SuperMouse. I bow before your morning-ness.

NaturallyMe's avatar

Unfortunately….nothing much. I have to force myself out of bed every day. Unless maybe thee’s something exciting planned, like shopping, or preparing the house for a BBQ with family or something, or going on vacation, something like that.

But this is just a bad pattern that i’ve got myself into since i started working from home – now i hardly ever HAVE to get up early. Once i’m in the habit though, it’s fine, and i don’t need anything to get me going.

SuperMouse's avatar

For the record, Spinning at 5:15 is a necessity more than anything else. I just don’t have anywhere else to fit it in my schedule. I have to work out and if I don’t I am miserable. The truth is I am not a morning person or a night person, I have a couple of good hours in the middle of the day.

Neizvestnaya's avatar

A mug of fresh espresso, play time with my partner or knowing I’ll be seeing friends that day.

Dr_Lawrence's avatar

It looks like @TheOnlyNeffie , @augustlan and @Dr_Lawrence have no concept of morning!
It’s 03:00 and I’m still here!
