Why do we find pouty lips so sexy?

Asked by ETpro (34605points) July 9th, 2010

Pouting is definitely NOT a positive thing..Webster says,
POUT: intransitive verb
1—to show displeasure by thrusting out the lips or wearing a sullen expression b : sulk
2—protrude
transitive verb
1—to cause to protrude <pouted her lips>

So why are pouty lips so universally admired and deemed sexy. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying I am any better than the rest of humanity in this regard. I think Halle Berry has lips hotter than this past 4th of July. But why do I think that?

I think part of it is because full plump lips signify the person is healthy and vibrant – compare it to dry, think chapped lips. Red lips show that they have good blood pumping through them regularly, again compare it to white or blue lips which are signs of problems. So one might find it sexy because the signals that are being sent are along the lines of, “I’m a very healthy woman who would make very healthy babies”.

Fellatio—pouty lips suggest the engorged vulva that signals female arousal.

From what I understand, they’re supposed to signify other parts of a woman’s anatomy, just as a human female’s breasts “mimic” her botty.

Because plump is almost always a good thing when it comes to sexual attraction.

For me, pouty lips are more pleasant to caress with my lips and finger tips. Thin lips are less appealing because they are more rigid. I like gently sucking and tasting a full lip, especially if it’s moist.

Angelina Jolie’s blow job lips, that’s all I need to say.

Because we can picture them wrapped around…something.

@dynamicduo From a natural selection point of view, that makes perfect sense. Thanks for a GA.

@ratboy, @ucme & @cprevite Ha! Point taken!

@aprilsimnel Mmmm… It all comes down to the beauty of the booty. :-)

@whatnot Welcome to Fluther and GA. I completely agree.

Symmetry and neoteny are two common features of sexual attraction.

Youthfulness and the want of it. Little children usually have plum looking lips because their mouths aren’t fully formed yet and most people also associate the movement of plump lips with that of a babies mouth- people love babies.

An ex of mine used to like to pinch my bottom lip and say, “boo jee boo jee boo jee…” Ick.

We do?

I don’t know, I guess it can be sexy, but my boyfriend and I both have really thin lips. I like it. :P
